Bridge Over Six Mile Creek Opens on U S 50
A new bridge over Six Mile Creek on U S 50 between U S 31 50 and Hayden opened to traffic this week with travel at your own risk. The crossings were built by Winslow Construction of Salem while two other bridges on the same route remain under construction and use temporary run around spans.

Jury Hearing Forgery Case Opens In Jackson Court
The state trials Ernest Douglas England in Jackson Circuit Court on forgery charges after jury selection. The trial, originally set for November 25, was moved to December 13. Defense attorney Allan H. Nierman and prosecutor James L. Laupus lead the case with a juror panel including Amos Hackroan and others. Woodrow W. Snider pled guilty to operating an overweight vehicle and received a $5 fine plus a $775 civil penalty. Thomas Kindred pleaded guilty to malicious trespass and was sentenced to 90 days at the state penal farm, suspended on good behavior.

Blast at Thiokol Plant Kills One. Two Missing
A solid rocket fuel plant blaze at Thiokol Chemical Corp in Elkton Maryland killed one worker and left two missing. Three others were hospitalized. 36 workers were on site in three buildings when the explosion occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Project engineer Frank McKinney said the fire involved solid propellant confined to one building.
