Three youths face two charges in a Jackson Circuit Court case after an attempted armed robbery at the Kasting residence in Seymour. Donald Ballman of Seymour is accused of firing a shot that struck Mrs. L Kasting in the arm, while a second bullet hit a chair. Ballman, Anderson of Seymour, and Johnson of Dayton were ordered held on 20000 bond each as they await counsel and further proceedings.

Three Car Accidents Reported Near Poplar and Tipton
City police logged three weekend crashes within two blocks causing one injury. A 1953 Bannister pickup and a 1950 Mullins pickup collided at South Poplar and West Tipton when Bannister started to move, injuring Anna Mullins. Both drivers charged with failure to yield.

Large Home At Kurtz Destroyed By Fire
A two story home of Mr and Mrs Benny Sutherland in Kurtz burned to the ground with all contents lost. Fire started in the rear near a kitchen and an oil burner in the living room fed the flames. Mrs Sutherland and three children later found at relatives in Bedford while Mr Sutherland arrived after. Responding were George W Abel Jackson County sheriff deputy Clyde Boofer and Troopers Robert Stanley and Philip Stout from Seymour state police post.

Adult Sewing Class Canceled Tonight at Shields High

Indiana property taxes will total 8 332 870 more in 1955 than this year but residents of 30 of the state s 92 counties will pay less says the Indiana Taxpayers association at Indianapolis. Jackson county 1955 tax is 1 594 916 up 117 968 from 1954. Association president Albert H Cole says almost one third of counties reduced rates and survey findings by the state tax board encourage further reductions.

Joseph Campbell 79 Dies in Seymour Rites Tuesday
Joseph Campbell a Seymour resident for 25 years died at 8 Sunday morning at his home 711 North O Brien Street after five years of illness. Funeral services are set for 2 PM Tuesday at Tower and Burkholder Funeral Home with Rev Miss Eula Kennedy of Pilgrim Holiness Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. He was born July 11 1875 in Albany Kentucky and married Belle Copeland in 1894 at Birdstown Tennessee. Survived by brother Otto Campbell Indianapolis and sister Effie Harbaugh Indianapolis. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

J Avery Dittmer of Seymour joins 54 other teachers and administrators named qualified to teach driver education after receiving Indiana University scholarships funded by the All State Foundation of Chicago. The foundation awarded 5000 dollars to IU this year and will provide a similar amount next summer through the IU Foundation. About 450 Indiana high schools offer driver training and state police statistics show a 50 percent lower traffic accident rate among those who completed driver education. Dittmer teaches driver education at Shields High School.
