Robert B. Herbert 28 of Columbus formerly Seymour pleaded guilty to three charges arising from blackmail of a young Jackson County woman. He received 10 years for automobile banditry and concurrent one to five year terms on two blackmail counts plus $17.80 costs on each. He was arrested after an undercover pursuit using a walkie talkie radio. he had been absent without official leave from Camp Kilmer New Jersey since last September.

Man given suspended term for forged instrument
Harold J. Bell pleaded guilty in Jackson Circuit Court to knowingly uttering a forged instrument. He was fined 50 dollars plus 17.80 dollars costs, and sentenced to two to 14 years at Michigan City prison, suspended on restitution within 60 days and no further similar crimes. Sheriff George W. Abel arrested him after Bell allegedly presented the forged instrument to a Brownstown merchant.
