Thousand Dollar Farm Fire Loss
Fire of unknown origin struck a granary on R. A. Greer’s farm four miles southwest of Hayden Friday night around 10 o’clock. The blaze destroyed the granary and a shed housing a Ford truck and a Dodge touring car, plus 250 bushels of buckwheat and lumber. Neighbors saved the barn and nearby house as embers touched roofs but rainfall earlier helped.

Purse snatcher fined and jailed after theft
Walter Wilson of Steubenville pleaded guilty to petit larceny for snatching a purse from Miss Ora Carpenter on Blish street. He was fined $1 plus costs and sentenced to 60 days on the state penal farm after payment. He was arrested twice and later lodged in the county jail before transfer to the penal farm.

Samuel Gompers Dies After Mexico Return
Samuel Gompers, veteran labor leader and longtime AFL president, died at 1:05 a.m. in San Antonio after a relapse following his return from Mexico City. He had just completed a trip with an AFL delegation and was re elected president of the Pan American Labor Unions before falling ill. The death was announced by Chester W. Wright of the AFL.
