Lawrence County Man Sentenced In Forgery and Embezzlement Case
Ray R. Mitchell forty four year old former clerk of the Lawrence Circuit Court resigned September 26 after an indict ment by a Lawrence county grand jury on charges of embezzlement forgery in four counts and conspiracy to commit a felony. He pleaded guilty to one forgery count and embezzlement by a county officer and received concurrent sentences of two to fourteen years in Michigan City state prison with a $25 fine on forgery and one to five years plus a $100 fine on embezzlement. State Board of Accounts examiners found discrepancies.

Ray Anthony Dies of Shotgun Wound in Pleasant Grove
Ray Anthony, a longtime Pleasant Grove farmer, died Sunday night from a chest shotgun wound ruled personal safety related by Coroner W A Dickmeyer. Born June 14, 1877, he lived near Freetown and was a member of several lodges. Surviving are his wives Myrtle Manuel and Emma Pruitt, three children from each marriage, a stepdaughter, stepson, two brothers, and several grandchildren. Funeral services are at Pleasant Grove church Wednesday at 10:30 AM with burial in Browns Town.

A man wanted for three murders and a bank robbery suspect were transported through Seymour by officers en route to Dallas County Texas for arraignment. They were in custody of Ed Caster deputy sheriff and three others. Raymond Hamilton faced murder charges including killing a deputy sheriff and two others while Eugene O'Dair was charged with the bank robbery. Arrested in Lansing Michigan, they were moved by motor.
