Seymour's zoning appeals board, after two and a half hours and two recesses, declared no jurisdiction and referred two thorny matters. It approved Walter Findley and Sons to enlarge the Rockford area sawmill and construct a 40 by 80 foot metal building for a box and pallet operation, with a large sawdust incinerator to be discussed in January.

Scott Doup, longtime stockyard manager at Seymour, will retire December 31. W. R. "Dick" Cummins announces Keith Brown will take over January 1, 1964, as Doup’s successor. Doup helped establish cooperative livestock marketing in southern Indiana and the Seymour yard expanded from two to four market days by 1935.

Firemen Respond To Appliance Fires In Seymour
Seymour firemen made two runs Tuesday to address appliance hazards. At 3 20 p m lint in a clothes dryer at 205 Taggart Drive sparked but caused no damage. A gas stove fire at 110 South Vine Street occupied by David Wright caused no damage upon arrival.

A calm Tuesday at Schneck Memorial Hospital saw only one patient treated for a minor injury in the emergency room. Mrs. J C Allman of Brownstown IL pulled wood from a rack in her basement Monday, a piece fell and struck her left ankle. She was admitted at 2 45 PM, X rayed, found to have no fracture, and released.

Indiana banks may raise time deposits to four percent for six months and three percent on passbook savings starting Jan 1. The State Department of Financial Institutions board voted five to zero to loosen the 3 percent cap, calling the move permissive and noting banks may still pay lower rates.
