Pic Thompson Hurt in Action in Europe
Pfc. Merle Thompson, age nineteen, son of Mr and Mrs Merle O Thompson of Sixth and Walnut streets, was wounded in action while serving with the U S Army in Germany. A hospital letter said he was progressing well and treated in Belgium after his removal. He reports two fingers blown off and a scalp wound. An official telegram from the War Department confirmed the injury.

Girls Club Open House At Seymour
A large crowd attended the Seymour Girls' Club open house Sunday afternoon. Guests toured activity rooms guided by club members. Refreshments were served in the dining room, and Christmas carols were sung in the living room by grade school girls. A Christmas radio play was staged by the dramatics group. Sally Sargeant and Nancy Hancock performed a flute solo. Vocal solos featured Letitia Rhoades and Lily Dawn Folks. Doris Finch directed the club.

Residence Fire Damages Jolly Home in Seymour
Firefighters in a steady rain battled a two story residence at 516 West Second Street owned by Mr. and Mrs Merle L Jolly after a defective flue ignited the attic. The blaze caused extensive roof and interior damage though most furnishings were moved to safety. A prior noon fire at 310 West Second Street damaged an automobile owned by Venada Dyer, with occupants escaping unharmed.

Ritter Memorial Services Held for Pfc Chester Ritter
Memorial services for Pfc Chester W. Ritter formerly of Seymour were held at 10 30 Sunday in Tabernacle Baptist Church Chillicothe Ohio. His father Albert Ritter and aunt Mrs Ruth Moritz attended. Ritter died October 13 in action with the U S Army in Italy. He had lived much of his life in Seymour and worked in a Chillicothe shoe factory before joining the service.
