Indiana Law and Order Gains Legislative Priority for 1969

Gov elect Whitcomb plans a broad anti crime package including a permanent State Crime Commission and training upgrades. A conference of 500 law enforcement officials will meet Jan 6 7 to shape proposals ahead of the January session.

27 Street Light Proposals Tabled by City Council

A proposal by Councilman Marvin W. Dyer to install 27 new street lights and upgrade 23 existing lamps to 8,000 mercury vapor units was presented to the city council. The plan covers Sixth Street Myers Drive Tenth Street North O'Brien Street Manor Drive Robin Hood Drive Lady Marian Drive and Community Drive with various replacements and additions. Copies were distributed for study before the next meeting while no formal action was taken.

Christmas Basket Fund hits new total in Seymour drive

The 1968 Christmas Basket Fund in Seymour surpassed last year’s pace with 70 dollars raised today from eight donors, pushing three day totals to 162 dollars from 23 donors. Central Pharmacal Company Credit Union led gifts with 35 dollars as organizers expect more large contributions from factory workers. Proceeds fund toys and food baskets for needy families and the drive runs through the holiday season with checks payable to the Christmas Basket Fund.

County Officials Attend Two Day Indiana Counties Conference

Jackson County officials including commissioners and newly elected officers will attend the 10th annual state conference of the Association of Indiana Counties in Indianapolis. Governor-elect Whitcomb and other state leaders will speak. a pre conference orientation for newly elected commissioners is scheduled.

Seymour Chamber Elects Stowe 69 President and New Officers

The Seymour Chamber of Commerce elected Charles H. Stowe Jr. as president at a board meeting. Glenn E. Montgomery was named first vice president and John H. Hopping second vice president. James M. Christian became treasurer. Stowe will assume duties January 13, with the group planning 1969 organization steps alongside the current and incoming leadership.

Seymour School Board Updates Building Valuations

The Seymour Community Schools board met Monday night in the administration building advancing due to a basketball game. They heard a new statement of building values aligned with current costs and policy provisions. Members discussed a Columbus meeting on farm organization taxation ideas, the Indiana School Boards Association program, and a November district meeting report. December claims were examined and paid. Jack Cathout presided in James T. Thompson’s absence with members present including Lester Swengel and Charles Cordes.
