Investigation continues into two violent deaths in this vicinity. Mrs. Carol Jean Martin 31 Brownstown died at Schneck Hospital after stepping in front of a 1955 pickup on U S 50 near her home. Ned Leland Garrett 14 Seymour R2 was found hanged behind his home.

State dismisses arson charge in Wehmiller case
The state dropped the arson charge against Daryl Wehmiller of Crothersville R2 just before trial. He was discharged and his bondsman released after witnesses were subpoenaed. The Sept. 7 fire destroyed a house shared by Wehmiller and his wife on Ind. 39 between Crothersville and Tampico. Elsner and Elsner appeared for the defendant.

Corn Referendum Voting Tuesday in Jackson County
Reed W. Wilson of the Indiana Agricultural Conservation and Stabilization Committee clarifies the corn referendum to be held Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in township voting places. Shields High School Christmas Concert Delights Large Audience
A large Sunday afternoon crowd filled Shields High School gym for a Christmas concert by the SHS Concert choir the girls choir and seventh and eighth grade choirs directed by J Stewart Williams. Accompanists were Donna Atkins Nancy Ewing and Judy Osterman. The program opened with the seventh and eighth graders then the girls choir followed by the SHS concert choir performing a mix of English French German and Appalachian carols and ending with We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Williams noted a boys chorus will sing in a future concert.

Fifty one delegates from 21 Lutheran congregations in Jackson and Bartholomew counties met at Weddleville to discuss county plans. The group authorized the Executive Board to study forming a Shelbyville Lutheran church and contact Indianapolis for possible help. Two new ministers were welcomed as 30 members attended.

Austin Man Is One-Car Victim Two Injured
Austin, Ind. Robert Eugene Lewis 26 of Austin was killed in a one car crash near Scottsburg early Sunday. James G. Eversole 24 and Robert McQueary 24, both of Austin, were injured and taken to Schneck Memorial Hospital. McQueary owned the car and was the driver. Lewis is survived by his parents and a brother. Funeral services set for Tuesday at the Austin Christian Church. Burial in Crothersville Cemetery.

Plane Carrying 62 Missing In Canada
A Trans-Canada Air Lines plane with 62 aboard vanished during a violent windstorm over south central British Columbia. Ground searches were launched after lights were sighted on Sumas Mountain but a relay tower light proved incidental. The flight, TCA 810, was en route to Eastern Canada when it turned back near Hope after an engine failure. The last radio contact occurred at 7 p.m. as the pilot requested descent from 8 000 feet. The aircraft, a Canadian DC4, was due in Montreal with stops at Calgary Regina Winnipeg and Toronto. Among the passengers were four Saskatchewan Interprovincial players en route to the East-West Shrine game. The wind gusts reached 50 mph amidst rain and snow in the Cheam Mountains as dawn approached. The missing include Mel Becket Gordy Sturtridge Mario DeMarco and Ray Syrnyk with Sturtridge accompanied by his wife Mildred Becket previously played for Indiana and Detroit and is 26.
