Fall distribution of taxes in Jackson County totals $380 424 mailed
Jackson County Auditor James E. Cummings reported a December distribution of $380,424.14 to township trustees, town officials and the state of Indiana. The full settlement was $509,284.28, larger than last year, with Seymour City receiving the largest share at $86,403.95 and county funds allocated to several funds and towns. The report notes early submission and that Jackson County was eleventh in the state to file its sheet.

The Rev. Floyd Haislup, longtime Crothersville Methodist pastor, accepts a call to Hope Methodist Church and will begin services Sunday. He plans to move his family to Hope after the new year. He succeeds Rev. James Cox who left October 23 for Osgood. Sgt. Van Thompson of Des Moines has led services since then. Haislup, a Columbus High School graduate, worked at Arvin Industries before entering the ministry. his wife is a Taylorsville teacher and their daughter Lois attends local schools while son James is in Crothersville High.

Winter Schools Set For Farmers
Winter schools begin January 12 1953 in Jackson county for farmers and homemakers. The four sessions open with the Artificial Breeding Association meeting on January 12 a public session on milk production. January 28 features weeds and weed control and low cost roughage topics. February 11 covers hay and pasture crop and grass silage with Purdue extension specialists. A district conference on agricultural policy is planned at Bedford with date and place TBC.

Ex Brownstown School Superintendent Homer Knight Dies
Homer G. Knight 77 retired Indianapolis teacher and former Brownstown superintendent died at home in Indianapolis after a heart attack. Knight served as director of shop work in Indianapolis 1917 nine years was principal of School 55 then School 34 and had taught in Tippecanoe county rural schools before joining Odell Charlestown Scottsburg Brownstown and Akron superintendent roles. He helped found the Prin sat Club in 1932 and belonged to multiple clubs and associations. Survivors include wife Leona Knight sister and brother in Lafayette and West Lafayette. Funeral plans not announced.

Gunmen in Times Square Shootout Wounds Six Police and Civilians
Clarence O. Sims, a Cleveland gunman leading the so called shotgun gang, engaged in a running gun battle with New York police in Times Square.
