White River rose to 16.2 feet Sunday and was still rising, passing flood stage of 14 feet and expected to crest today. Two inches of rain across Shelbyville and Rushville fed the surge, with four state roads in Jackson county under water and closed. Temperatures cooled, with highs around 39 and lows near 30, as officials forecast fair, warmer weather ahead.

Charlies Hunterman 76 a lifelong Seymour resident died at home on Emer son Drive after a month of illness. Funeral services set for Tuesday at Voss Mortuary with Rev. Amos Bastin officiating. Burial at Riverview Cemetery. He operated a wallpaper store, was an interior decorator for 50 years, and worked at Richart's Clothing Store until 1948. He was married to Lilla Hauen Schild. He was an active Methodist.

Seymour Woolen Mills of Seymour New York was awarded a defense contract to manufacture 13 000 white woolen blankets for the Army at 134 940 dollars. The delivery date was not disclosed and the contract came from the New York Quartermaster Procurement Agency after competitive bidding. Brig Gen Robert P. Florence Hall 69 dies at home in Jackson County
Mrs. Florence Hall aged 69 longtime Jackson County resident died at her home 634 East Sixth Street after a yearlong illness. Born February 16 1882 in Driftwood Township she married Elie Benton Hall in 1901 celebrating a golden anniversary in 194? Funeral services led by Rev George L Florence were held at Central Christian Church with burial in Riverview Cemetery. She is survived by her husband four children a half sister five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

City Driver Pleads Guilty After Weekend Accident
Charles L. Carter of this city pleaded guilty in city court to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was fined 50 dollars with 11.75 dollars costs and a 99 day license suspension. The arrest followed a collision on Sixth Street near Fir Street between his 1939 model coach and a 1939 model sedan driven by Richard Taylor. Damage totaled about 275 dollars. A second incident on Walnut Street involved Leona J. Hess and Max Lynch. rear-end damage was minor.
