In Brownstown Jackson county court, a second special venire of 200 names was drawn as part of the first degree murder trial of David K. Edman. Jurors near completion were examined, with 11 in the box at noon, and 31 others excused today.
Seymour police shot and killed a large black dog after receiving more than 20 complaints that it attacked pets. The animal, blamed for biting Emerson school pupils Jo Ann Carter and Peggie Aiken, was identified by owner William Collens. Dr. W A Martin removed the brain tissue and sent it to the state board of health for rabies testing. The dog had chewed through a bound telephone wire before being shot in the West Fourth Street yard.
A two story residential landmark in Heltonville built over a century ago burned at noon Sunday. The fire, discovered by Trubert Ellison, forced Mrs. W. C. Roberts and nearby family to flee. Origin undetermined with damage in the thousands.
Seymour joined the nation in its first snowfall of the season turning to freezing rain overnight. Hazardous highways, several minor accidents with no injuries, and icy intersections prompted police attention. Total damage estimated around $60 as street and city crews work through sub-zero conditions.

L. M. Mullikin has been appointed pastor of the Freetown Christian Church and the Honeytown Christian Church. He and his wife have moved into a parsonage purchased by the Freetown church which obtained the deed this week. He will preach two Sundays a month at each church.

James L. Rogers of Seymour, president of the American Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association, will participate in the ninth annual scientific award ceremony in New York. The award honors the American Medical Association for public health contributions in medical research. Rogers will give introductory remarks at the dinner session on December 16 at the Waldorf Astoria Starlight Roof.
