Man Killed In Dump Truck Accident Near Medora

Roy Lee Edwards 21 Wallonia was killed when he was crushed between a dump bed and cab while dumping bricks on County Road 550 South. He worked for the Jackson County highway department and died at the scene from a massive skull fracture and chest injuries. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Spurgeon Funeral Home Brownstown with burial in Wallonia Cemetery. He was born November 7, 1951, a native of Lawrence County and son of Claude and Nancy Edwards. He was unmarried and part of the Pentecostal Church at Freetown.

The Christmas Basket Fund in Seymour reaches $365 total after a Thursday contribution surge. Major gifts include Seymour Auto Supply and the Fire Department, with many $5 and $10 donations amid a 54th year drive running through December 21 for December 22 basket deliveries.

Revenue sharing funds earmarked for Jackson County towns

Indiana counties will receive 194 549 under the 1971 revenue sharing act with Seymour getting 70 414. Payments cover Jan 1 to June 30 1972 and support public safety streets health and social services. Towns listed include Brownstown Crothersville Medora and others with amounts ranging from 536 to 8 380. Jennings County totals 127 591 with North Vernon city among recipients.

Brownstown Bloodmobile Draws 85 Donors

Eighty five prospective donors reported to the Red Cross bloodmobile at the American Legion Home in Brownstown on Thursday. Ninety pints were not drawn. 81 pints were collected. Medical staff included Dr. Joel McGill Dr. Thomas Palmer and Dr. G R Gillespie. Nurses and aides named served on duty with volunteer help from many local residents and Kieffer Paper Mill workers assisted loading and dismantling the unit.

Census Bureau Plans Survey On Employment For Week

The Census Bureau will conduct its regular monthly survey in the area during December 11 to 15. Forrest P. Cawley Jr. notes inclusion of farm work for pay questions. About 50 000 households nationwide are scientifically selected to reflect the population. The survey, taken for the U S Department of Labor, tracks labor force conditions and helps gauge the economy. The October results showed employment continuing to rise.

Freezing Rain Hazards Spread Across Jackson County Indiana

Freezing rain slicked Jackson County and much of Indiana early today with hazardous roads and bridges on Interstate 65 under note. Ice was breaking up by noon as rain returned and temperatures rose above 32 degrees.

Icy roads cause multiple accidents on I-65 near Seymour

State police reported six crashes late Thursday and early Friday due to icy conditions and speeds. Charles Stevens 34 of Nashville faced DUI charges after his two door car skidded and overturned on I-65 near U S 50. Frances Fawcett 57 of Vernon lost control on a bridge south of Seymour, damaging her 1972 auto. Raymond Fawbush 23 of North Vernon collided with Zacky Buckner 33 of Scottsburg on I-65 near the three bridges. Jessie Ruddick 47 of Seymour skidded on the same bridge and went down an embankment with no damage estimated.

Farmer elected to ASC committee in Jackson County

John W. Spurgeon won the Jackson County Agricultural and Stabilization Committee post for a three year term starting January 1, 1973. Landis Bottorff and Kenneth Miller named first and second alternates. Paul Darlage the fourth nominee. Spurgeon replaces Fred Krumme on the ASC board.

SHS Bands Give Winter Concert At Seymour High School

More than 500 attendees watched Seymour High School bands perform in the annual winter concert in the high school auditorium. The Concert Band opened with Expo 70 and So How a Rose Eer Blooming followed by Theme and Montage, then Edelweiss and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas before Flower Drum Song. The Symphonic Band, directed by Ker mit E Mann, performed a Three Dog Night medley and other selections.
