Recount Finishes in 13 Jackson Precincts
In Jackson county during the November 2 election recount, James L. Laupus Republican retained gains in six of seven precincts counted, narrowing Edward L. Lustig Democratic petitioners total net to 11 votes. Lustig had trailed Laupus by 113 votes after the canvass. recount began Monday under Judge John M. Lewis appointee commission.

Ross Teckemeyer Dies at Indianapolis Hospital
Ross Teckemeyer 60, former Seymour resident and 31 year state employee, died Tuesday at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis after a 10 day illness from a cerebral hemorrhage. He served 19 years on the State Board of Accounts and eight as first secretary of the State Public Employer Retirement Fund. Born in Seymour, he moved to Indianapolis as a child. He was a Republican who worked across Democratic administrations. He is survived locally by two uncles, Marsh and W I Ross.

Carter Fultz Crowned Jackson County Corn Champion
Carter Fultz of Kurtz won the 1954 Jackson County 100 Bushel corn title with 177.8 bushels per acre from a Salt Creek bottom farm in Owen township. He manages the Steakmaker farm and is Purdue educated with plans for a 200 bushel target. Pfaffenberger followed with 172.8 bushels on a sandy loam irrigation plot.

Kelso L. Wessel of Brownstown, son of Mr and Mrs Wilbert H Wessel, will join International Farm Youth Exchange delegates in Bolivia beginning January 1955. He reports to Washington January 3 for orientation then flies to La Paz via Miami January 9. He will live with farm families and study farming with Paul M Saunders of Arlington Va. both expect to stay through May. Wessel graduated Tampico High in 1951 and works for Farm Bureau Cooperative.

Owen Township Sets Appropriation Hearing
Owen township trustees will hold a regular meeting December 20 to consider 7200 in additional appropriations from two funds 4600 from tuition fund 28 for pay of teachers and 2600 from special school fund 21 for pay of teachers. Seven Survivors Of Tug Bertha R. Safe After Sinking
Panama City Florida coast guard cutter Cartigan rescued seven survivors and found the bodies of three crewmen from the tug Bertha R which sank in heavy seas and 25 mph winds on Monday afternoon. Captain Ashburn Thompson of Tampa led the crew after abandoning ship. The tug was bound from New Orleans to Tampa with a 200 foot barge when the towline parted and the stern struck the barge opening seams.
