Ready Response Fund Helps Christmas Baskets In Seymour
The Seymour Daily Tribune, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and their auxiliaries launch a Christmas Fund to supply food baskets for needy families. Treasurer Robert Lucas will track donations, with contributions also accepted at Seymour National Bank. Baskets distributed by Legion and VFW members the day before Christmas, including toys for children.

Former Jackson County Official David W. Thompson Dies
David W. Thompson, 76, longtime Jackson County public official, died at his Brownstown home after a four week illness. Born January 18, 1876 near Houston, he served as deputy clerk, deputy auditor, and auditor across 21 years. He married Malinda Cross in 1899 and later ran a Browns Town grocery with his son Hansford.

Entries for the Christmas home lighting contest sponsored by the Seymour Junior Chamber of Commerce are coming in with a Decem ber 17 deadline. Milton Pollett says three prize classes exist: doorways and windows, religious scenic effects, and overall decorations. Local merchants donate prizes displayed in the Public Service Company window. Mrs Edna B Nicholson Dies In Reddington
Mrs Edna B Nicholson 59 lifelong Jackson county resident of Reddington Seymour Rd died Saturday afternoon after months of illness. Born September 5 1893 she was the daughter of Edmond and Jane Hines Talley both deceased. She married Charles R Nicholson in August 1927 who survives along with one half brother William Talley. Funeral 2 pm Tuesday at Voss Mortuary with Rev Frank Pickett of Reddington Christian Church officiating. Burial in Reddington Cemetery. Friends may call at Voss Mortuary after 4 pm today.

Funeral Held for Man Stricken While Driving
Funeral services were held at Flanigan and Reed Funeral Home in Columbus for August Pyatt 71 who was stricken by a heart attack Friday while driving his automobile and veered into a service station. Burial was in Daugherty Cemetery. Surviving are his widow Etta Betts Pyatt two sons Eugene Pyatt and Charles Irwin Pyatt a daughter Mrs Omer Moorman eight grandchildren two brothers Ed Pyatt and Harry Pyatt and a sister Mrs Ann Dell. Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Prison Riot Ends After 20 Hours With Hostages
Eight or nine convicts held two New Mexico State Penitentiary guards as bargaining leverage during a 20 hour prison uprising in Santa Fe. Authorities surrounded the facility with about 150 armed officers and negotiated through a porthole while hostages remained unharmed. Ringleader Robert Eads, from St. Louis, faces 18 to 25 years for armed robbery.

Probers Hear Private Truckers Driven From New York Docks
James Sinclair of Luckenbach Steamship Co testified that private truckers have been driven off the New York waterfront by tire slashings and other intimidation. He said enforcement is lax and public loaders, affiliated with the AFL International Longshoremen’s Association, control cargo flow and raise costs. Witnesses described the waterfront system as a racket fueling gangsterism and heavy losses to shipping firms.

Near-crash lands TWA Super Constellation in Nevada
Forty four aboard a Trans World Airways Super Constellation escaped injury when two of four engines failed on a flight from Chicago to San Francisco. The emergency landing at Fallen Nevada saw brakes fail and the plane slide off the runway on two wheels and a wing tip. All 39 passengers and five crew members were unharmed.
