The office of principal DeWitte Ogan announced that 101 Shields High School students across four classes earned honors in the second six weeks. High honor went to 26 students led by Freshmen with 12. regular honor totals 75 with Juniors posting 30, Freshmen 21, Sophomores 15, Seniors 9.
A total of 47 Shields Junior High students earned places on the high and regular honor rolls for the second six weeks, announced by principal C. H. Englehardt. Eighth grade high honor recipients were Fred Henley, David Rambo, and Wayne Shortridge. Seventh grade high honor student Larry Eglen plus Nancy Martin also made the list. Regular honor roll includes 26 seventh graders and 16 eighth graders, with extensive names listed for both grades.
Two cars were damaged but no injuries reported after a Friday night crash on U S Road 31 north of the Kriete curve near Seymour. John C. Fouts of Indianapolis tried to pass John D. Mascher of Seymour R2 as Mascher turned left into his driveway. Fouts’ car sustained about $200 damage and Mascher’s about $50. Trooper Lawrence Conway investigated.
Postmaster W. H. Droege warns of common mailing mistakes as Seymor sees heavy Christmas card and gift package volume. He urges updating address books, early mailing next week, careful wrapping, clear handwriting, accurate labeling, and proper use of seals, with notes on size limits and handling.
Robert L. Jordan of Seymour Tool and Engineering Company and Harold S. Hobson of Seymour Manufacturing Company were appointed to the Seymour Chamber of Commerce board. They fill vacancies left by resignations of Harold C. Ahlbrand of Ahlbrand Company and Roy Barnett of Schawe-Ger win Shoe Corporation.
Police investigate a burglary at Gebhart Auto Supply Inc 309 South Chestnut Street. Detective Don Winn Seymour post assists as about five dollars in cash is reported missing. Safe, drawer and filing cabinet contents were scattered in the office.

The Seymour Ministerial Association schedules a Christmas Eve service from 11 pm to midnight on December 24 at Central Christian Church. Rev. Robert Hazen will deliver the message, with Pastor Rev. George L. Florence presiding. The group also set January 13 for a citywide religious survey and plans the annual week of Prayer from March 2 to 7 at St Paul Congregational Church.
Seymour resident Paul Zech notes license numbers from 39 of 48 states seen on U S Highway 50 near Road 3 east of Seymour. He tracked colors and plates as travelers pass through Seymour or stop, including a standout plate QB 444 QB in silver on black suggesting a Canadian or foreign origin.
The University of Louisville Concert Band will headline “Band Night” at the Seymour Rotary Club Monday. Frank Cofield and Harold Walters lead the program with Shields High School band guests. The ensemble performs pieces from recently released albums arranged by Walters and recorded by Rubank, Inc. of Chicago. The lighter program spans classics to Latin rhythms.
Official maximum pet reading and official minimum oo are noted. A 42 reading was recorded at 10 a.m. and a river level of 12.3 feet was observed.
Company B of the 138th Tank Battalion Indiana National Guard gained a new exterior lighting system at Freeman Field through community efforts. Airport manager Guy R Hamlin Seymour Aviation Commission and local workers moved poles and lights, funded by the Adjutant General's Department, earning an Excellent rating in a recent federal inspection.
Stone from Lake Village installs Honeytown Grange officers in Grange Hall assisted by local members Caroline Ritz marshal Helen Robertson regalia bearer Avis Burrell emblem bearer Elsie Dariage pianist Ruth Boknecht Bonnie Boknecht singers. A program of poetry and Grange history followed with Silent Night and Bless Be the Tie songs and a social hour with lunch.
The Camp Management Committee plans opening of the Presbyterian Youth Camp near Brownstown for 1952. The camp will run for ten weeks starting next summer with building plans nearing completion and everything ready by the first session. Committee members include Rev Roy Converse of Indianapolis Miss Helen Polk of Vincennes and Joe Cummins of Columbus.
The Shields High School annual Christmas concert will be Sunday at 3 PM in the girls’ gym. The program features the SHS concert band directed by Frank Cofield, the concert choir, and the girls ensemble directed by David N. Davenport, with a final choir and band collaboration.
Grocers urge OPS to allow higher margins citing rising costs and ask for a two percentage point increase in overall profit. Officials will survey 560 000 stores to assess need for emergency price relief though any hike is not expected soon.

About 102 attendees from Brownstown North Vernon Crothersville and the city heard Dr. John Bell a Louisville child psychiatrist speak on child rearing and parent child relationships.
George Small, 76, lifelong Shelbyville resident and interior decorator, died Friday morning after a heart attack as he was exiting an automobile. Survived by Russell Small and seven other sons, four daughters, 22 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a brother, a sister, and a deceased daughter from 1918. Funeral at 2 p.m. Monday at Ewing Mortuary, burial Forest Hill Cemetery. friends may call.
A 1950 model automobile belonging to Finley Davidson of Brownstown was stolen from his home Thursday night or Friday morning and found abandoned Friday afternoon in Knox County near Vincennes. The car was undamaged but the keys were missing and state police at the Seymour post were notified.
The Jackson County Tuberculosis Association will hold its monthly free chest clinic next Wednesday at the Jackson County Health Center on North Chestnut Street. Dr. C. J. McIntyre, Indianapolis TB specialist, will supervise the sessions from 10 to 12 and 1 to 3. New and former patients are welcome. The clinics are funded by the association’s Christmas seal and health bond sale.
In Munsan Korea United Nations envoys pressed to supervise an armistice but were rebuffed by the Communists after five hours of talks. Two-man subcommittees advanced no agreement though observers saw hard bargaining signals. Turner cautioned against expecting major news as sessions resume at Panmunjom.

Mrs Lola Marsh 71 lifelong Jackson County resident died at home 402 Circle Street Friday after several weeks illness. Born 1880 to Albert and Dora Foist Otto, she married Sebe Marsh who preceded her. Survived by daughters Goldie Carter and Sylvia Wayt, brothers Edgar and Charles Otto, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. AP reports three separate American military crashes kill thirty crewmen across Japan France the Azores Bermuda and Libya routes. In Japan one injured crewman is rescued three bodies recovered and five missing on the B 29 and C 47 wrecks. Wreckage found near Marseille but no survivors.
Terre Haute Indiana halted transit as 80 bus drivers and garagemen walked out over wages. A 13 hour negotiating session left the wage gap at about 4 cents, with the AFL Motor Coach Employes Union and the company offering 6 to 10 cents. Mayors and conciliators attended the final talks.
