Tax Funds Certified in November Jackson County Installment

Jackson County treasurer Allen Bain Harbaugh certifies 2,060,166.25 in real estate personal property and bank tax receipts for the November installment. Lynn Roberts Jr reports the funds will be sent to the state auditor for distribution to taxing units later this week.

November Parking Meters Show Increased Receipts

City clerk-treasurer Miss Gaynelle Moritz reported November parking meter receipts totaled 1934.78, up 392.38 from October and 428.23 above the same month last year. Five collection periods occurred in November versus four in October and 1969.

Christmas Basket Fund Opens Its 52nd Year in Seymour

The annual Christmas Basket Fund, run by Seymour American Legion Post 89 and the Seymour Daily Tribune, begins its 52nd year with donations already totaling 135. The drive runs to Christmas to feed needy Seymour families, with baskets filled from local canned goods and groceries. LeRoy Pollett of Seymour National Bank is treasurer. contributions may be mailed or delivered to Pollett at the bank, checks payable to the Christmas Basket Fund.

Seymour Region 11 designated in Indiana planning plan

Seymour and Jackson County are placed in Region 11 for Indiana state planning and development. Judge Robert H. Judd of the Seymour Chamber of Commerce chairs Region 11, which covers Brown, Bartholomew, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings Counties. The symposium Dimensions 70 at the Atkinson Hotel in Indianapolis outlined statewide planning priorities and programs funded two thirds by HUD and one third by locals.

Driftwood township residents invited to public planning meeting at 8 p m at Vallonia Elementary School. Indiana to mail 1971 license plate forms to motorists

Registration forms for 1971 plates will be mailed to Hoosier citizens between December 15 and 30. The forms show excise taxes due at purchase and plate fees of 12 50 for autos and 6 50 for motorcycles. Plates can be bought January through June by alphabetical groups.

Brownstown Christmas Parade Awards Honor Float Winners

The Brownstown Christmas parade crowned the Browns town Central Young Farmers float The Greatest Gift Of All with first prize and a 50 dollar award. Peoples Bank Brownstown earned second place and 25 dollars while Kappa Kappa sorority Gifts Of Olde Brownstown chapter took third with 15 dollars. Jennings County High School Marching Band led musical units with 25 dollars for first and 25 for participation. Brownstown Central and Crothersville high school bands each received 25 dollars for taking part. A total of 59 units including 17 floats joined the 3 PM parade route through downtown with Santa closing the event. The show also featured Janie from the Janie and Popeye program and the Indianapolis Shrine horse patrol.

Madrigal Dinners Conclude in 16th Century Style

The Civic Arts Guild wrapped up its Madrigal dinners with a final 6:30 p m show at the Elks Club. Mrs John W Ripley noted strong attendance, the court room full, and praised the choir's performance. She hopes for another program around Easter.

Over 500 Attend Annual Meeting Of FB Co-op

The Jackson County Farm Bureau Co-operative Association held its 41st annual stockholders meeting and dinner near Seymour with about 525 attendees at Seymour High School. Clifford Osterman reported year end 1970 profit of 165,345 on 6,888,064 in sales, net worth 2,137,696, liabilities 1,670,110. Louis M. Johnston spoke on grain marketing and export market demand, stressing cooperative production and earnings, noting 61 percent of wheat, 33 percent of corn, and 61 percent of soybeans move in export markets. The meeting included elections for township directors and remarks by officials.

Man dies in hunting mishap near Brewstersville Jennings Co

Donald Curts 23 of North Vernon R3 was found dead after a Saturday hunting accident. A 410 shotgun blast to the heart caused his death, ruled accidental by coroner Jerry Sharp. A 30 person search found him near a farm south of Brewersville at 3:30 a.m. Sunday. He served four years in the Navy and is survived by parents, a brother, two sisters, and a grandfather. Funeral set for Wednesday at Dowd Funeral Home North Vernon with Rev. James Harden officiating.

Six Children Die in New Albany Apartment Fire

In New Albany Indiana six young children perished from smoke and fire in a small two apartment building. The blaze began from an electric heater with investigators noting possible heater cord ignition. Parents were awakened around 3 30 am but could not reach the children.
