Gun Jones Identified as Shibe Murder Weapon in Ballistic Tests
A 25 caliber revolver owned by Robert Allen Jones, 18, Chicago, AWOL from the U S Army, was identified by Indiana state police lab ballistic tests as the gun used to kill Gerald W. Shibe, 53, near Seymour on Nov 14. Jones confessed after officers obtained the Shibe murder confession in Chattanooga. The Tennessee grand jury will review the case Monday along with the Jackson County grand jury considering the Brownstown murder.

Pair of Ohio men held in interstate theft probe
City police arrested Calbert Simmers and Jason Lanter on vagrancy charges after spotting them with a large leather sack of new canned food. Federal agents were alerted when the cans were believed stolen from a semi-trailer piggybacked on a railroad train near the state line. Police also seized an 18 inch flashlight filled with rock salt.

Boy Serious After Swallowing Pills
A five year old Cortland boy Terry Cassell was in serious condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after reportedly swallowing sleeping pills. He was admitted at 3 20 p m Wednesday. Also treated as an outpatient Wednesday was eight year old Jerry Jackson of Brownstown who injured his nose in a fall and was admitted for X rays and released.

Local Trucker Unhurt In Train Collision
A 59 year old Seymour truck driver escaped injury when the Cortland Produce Company truck he was driving was struck by a Louisville work train at a Clifford crossing at about 2 p m eastbound from Shelbyville to Louisville. The guard rail on the engine dented the right front fender of the truck, which was partly loaded with chickens. Damages were listed at 150 dollars for the truck and 5 dollars for the engine guard rail.

Kasuo Sakamaki, chief of Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. experts, recalls being the first Japanese prisoner captured by the United States after the Pearl Harbor raid. He and Petty Officer Kiyoshi Inagaki piloted a midget submarine, faced steering failures, reef collisions, and failed entry into Pearl Harbor, ending with Sakamaki’s capture at dawn on December 8.
