Two Minor Fires Cause Light Damage in City
Firemen answered a midnight call to a roof fire at Louis M. Rinehart’s home 313 West Brown Street with slight damage after about a half hour. Earlier at 11:55 am a grass fire near Mr and Mrs Marshall McKain 705 South Carter Street caused no damage.

Fire destroys six room home south of Seymour
A fire about 7:45 this morning leveled a six room residence owned by Mrs. Orville McDonald on Sey R2 two miles north of Uniontown. The blaze started in the dining room and spread to the ceiling, destroying the dwelling and its contents. Mrs. McDonald and her seven year old grandson escaped, unable to control the fire with a garden hose. The house burned for about ninety minutes before dying out with no insurance to cover most losses. The residents will move to Crothersville R2 with relatives.

Demundrum 48 of Indianapolis sister of C Green Seymour will be at 2 pm Wednesday at Dorsey Funeral Home 3925 East New York Street Indianapolis with burial in Washington Park Cemetery. Recount of votes in six of forty Jackson County precincts by noon shows Edward S Lustig Democrat gaining a net 19 votes for prosecuting attorney in the November election. In Brownstown fifth precinct James L Laupus Republican held 218, Lustig 252 after recount. Carr South and Brownstown third and fourth precincts also revised results with Lustig adding or losing margins.

Belles of Indiana Delight Audience In Shields Program
The Belles of Indiana from Indiana University Bloomington with 40 voices and five instrumentalists performed at Shields High School gymnasium Monday night. Jonesville Home Destroyed By Fire
Eight room frame dwelling owned by Mr. and Mrs. William Rittman in Jonesville burned to the ground Monday morning. Neighbors saved many belongings from the first floor before collapse. Loss estimated in thousands, partially insured. Fire started in upper part, possibly from faulty wiring. Mrs. Rittman and her mother were in the house. Mr. Rittman and daughter Marilyn were at work. Fire department arrived too late to save the home. upper bedrooms ruined while lower furnishings survived. The family had remodeled recently and completed a bathroom.

Seven rescued three bodies after Bertha R sinks in Gulf
Coast Guard reports the tug Bertha R, en route from New Orleans to Tampa, sank after losing contact. Seven survivors and three bodies were recovered by Cartigan. one crewman remains missing. A raft with two more survivors was spotted and is being retrieved.

Pauper Attorney Named For Couple in Robbery Case
John Chappell and his wife Elizabeth of Bloomington appeared in Browns Town Circuit Court and filed pauper affidavits asking for counsel. Judge Allan H. Nierman was named as pauper attorney. They face arraignment Saturday on charges for beating and robbing Cecil Buzzard of Austin of about 75 to 78 dollars after transporting him to the edge of Jackson County. Buzzard was found by a motorist along State Road 256 west of Austin and the couple was later captured by Seymour state police.

Graveside Rites For Haynes Infant Son
Graveside services were held this afternoon for the infant son of Mr and Mrs Harry Haynes of 644 South O Brien Street at River View Cemetery. The Rev Ronald Bartanen of the Church of Christ presided. The infant died shortly after birth Monday night at Schneck Memorial Hospital. Surviving are the parents and two brothers, Harry Robert Haynes and William Arden Haynes.
