A recount of ballots for Jackson County prosecuting attorney began with Brownstown township precincts. Edward S. Lustig gained four votes in the first precinct as the commission corrected Laupus’s tally, increasing Lustig’s margin and adjusting Laupus to 117 votes in that precinct.

Benjamin H. Gorbett Dies-Rites Tuesday
Benjamin H. Gorbett 77 of Seymour died Sunday at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a three week illness. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from Voss Mortuary with Rev. Emery Parks of the First Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Acme Cemetery. He was retired after 20 years with Arvin Industries and is survived by Maggie McIntire Gorbett, his widow, three sons Raymond, Alton, and Ralph, two brothers Marion and Chester, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was born July 10, 1877 in Jackson County and lived in the area his entire life. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics.

Jackson county hunters and the state faced a poor two day deer season ending Saturday night with only 23 total kills. In Jackson county E R Gerald of West Fifth Street took a six point buck above 200 pounds northeast of Freetown, while Devon Personnal of Indianapolis likely had the season’s best find a 250 pound nine point buck eight miles west of Brown County State Park.

A Sunday outbreak of tornadoes ripped eastern Alabama and western Georgia killing one person and injuring at least 48. Hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed across 13 rural communities with Alabama reporting 57 homes destroyed and 100 damaged while Georgia suffered 220 severely damaged. National Guard and Red Cross aid teams aided residents as crews worked to replace poles and wires along a 50 mile wide path. The only fatality occurred near Richland Georgia.

More Natural Gas Available Soon In Indiana and Midwest
Fourteen Indiana utilities will share an extra 100 million cubic feet of natural gas daily via Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company around December 15. Citizens Gas & Coke Utility will gain 10 million cubic feet daily enabling gas heat for about 3,000 more homes. other allocations include Central Indiana Gas 15 million, Indiana Gas & Water 5 million, Kokomo Gas 5 million, and Northern Indiana Public Service 2 million.
