Mayor Charles L. Kessler receives an invitation to attend the Indiana Municipal League session in Indianapolis December 15. The meeting aims to discuss proposed measures for the next legislature with mayors from ninety eight cities, including changes to liquor law penalties and other municipal reforms.
William Middendorf aged sixty nine, a prominent Jackson and Bartholomew counties farmer, died at his home near Jonesville after a ten day illness. He was born November 24, 1853, and survived by seven sons and a brother. He was a devoted Lutheran and active in church life. funeral arrangements listed with services pending.

Norfolk, December 6. A pursuit plane piloted by Major Gearheart collided in the air with a Martin bomber led by Captain Benton Doyle during takeoff. Three men died on impact, three burned to death. four bombers escaped as Gearheart’s craft veered into the V formed formation.

Chicago, December 6. Operators and miners presented a joint wage negotiations plan aimed at preventing strikes and lockouts in the coal industry. Fifteen states attended as the draft calls for arbitration of differences and a wage scale tied to market prices in competitive fields. Predicts varied acceptance by miners with some warning of possible federal control if a strike occurs April 1.
President Harding recommends to the Senate Commerce Committee that the house amendment creating a $300,000,000 annual revolving fund for ship subsidies be eliminated. Senator Jones, committee chair, read the President's letter as the subsidy bill was considered.
Russell Mitchell a Shields high school manual training instructor is confined at his home 721 East Fourth street with diphtheria. The home was quarantined today by sanitary officer James A Willey. Mitchell has been ill for several days but is said to be improving.
In Los Angeles on December six, Clifford Phillips said Clara Phillips, the hammer murderess who broke jail, may have been kidnapped or killed by enemies. He cited Peggy Caffee’s disappearance and alleged that Caffee lured Alberta Meadows to the jail window to aid Phillips, possibly leading to a revenge murder. Authorities weigh motives from Phillips’s theory.
Ambassador Richard Child, U S observing delegate, pressed for full freedom of the Dardanelles for both merchant ships and war vessels. The allies indicated unity despite Turkish Russian tensions, with Britain favoring conditional freedom for war ships if Turkey disarms fortifications. A commission of control for war ships was to be defined at the next session.
