Two Weeks In October Term Draws Busy Court Schedule
With two full weeks left in the October term, Jackson Circuit Court prepares for busier days. Judge John M. Lewis will preside as two jury trials are set for next week including December 10 with the state v Abbott for DUI and December 11 for the kidnapping trial of Guy Hopper. Hopper, 30, Seymour, is held on a 20000 bond. Marilyn J. Anderson v Jack L. Anderson divorce trial is slated for Monday. The term ends December 19, reopening January 4 under Judge-elect Jonathan Robertson.

Auto Crashes During Chase Injuring Three Seymour Youths
Three Seymour youths were treated in fair condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a high speed crash while allegedly trying to outrun Seymour police. The 1958 convertible left U S 50, rolled into a 15 foot embankment, then landed upside down in a foot of water. The driver Ronald Donnells and Richard Abel were hospitalized. James White, knocked out, hitchhiked home before seeking treatment. Police continued investigation with possible charges.

Two-Car Collision Fatal South of Wallonia on Ind. 135
Jackson County records the eighth traffic death in eight counties after Harley Edwards 66 dies from a fractured skull in a two car crash 1.2 miles south of Wallonia on Ind. 135. The collision occurred as Edwards pulled from a private driveway to head north while Boyd Abner 18 approached, the highway slick from a hill contributing. Edwards leaves a large family and church ties with services planned in Brownstown.

Barn Fire Rips Through Foster Farm Kills Pigs
A barn on the Arnold Foster farm near Seymour Al burned Friday night destroying hay corn and farm implements. Fourteen hogs were killed or burned and a calf perished as the Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department battled the stubborn blaze for about seven hours. One sow survived. several pigs were saved. The fire was reported around 10 30 p m and used more than 13 000 gallons of water before it was extinguished.

FBI arrests 21 white men in Mississippi civil rights case
In Philadelphia Mississippi FBI agents arrested 21 white men linked to the murder of three civil rights workers last summer. Twenty of the suspects including Sheriff Lawrence Rainey Deputy Cecil Price and five Ku Klux Klansmen were free on bond awaiting federal court hearings in Meridian. The FBI charged 19 with civil rights violations and two as accessories.
