Shields High School Owls suffered a 26 to 19 defeat at Salem after a five game win streak. Salem led 10 to 7 at half and 18 to 14 after three quarters, then widened the margin in the final seconds as the Owls struggled to find a clicking lineup.
Harry V Propst learns his uncle G V Vickery 82 died Thursday in Greenfield Funeral services are set for 2 PM Sunday at Greenfield Cemetery with burial there He is Propst’s only surviving uncle and his daughter lives in Rensselaer Indiana
In Belgrade Montana Chester Ternan, 31, perished after rescuing his two year old son from a burning home then returned inside to save his three year old, dying with the child in his arms. The two younger sons were found with him.
James F. Hall, age twenty, a sailor, was arrested at Long Beach California on charges of attempting to extort 5000 dollars from film star Ginger Rogers, according to J Edgar Hoover director of the FBI.

Sister Sylvia, longtime music teacher at St. Ambrose Catholic School, died Friday morning in Ferdinand Indiana. She had been ill and stayed at the Ferdinand convent for months. Richard H. Roethke of Indianapolis sustained several cuts after his Jewell Tea Co truck collided with a Medora Brick Co truck on the U S 37 bridge over White River at Rockford Friday. Doyle Hunsucker of Medora drove the brick truck west. Roethke was eastbound. Both front ends were damaged. investigation by Officers LaMaster and Tucker. A coal truck owned by George Thompson and driven by Sim Bryant was destroyed by fire on U S 50 about two miles west.
Applications for auto and drivers licenses have been received in Jackson county over the past day or two. The state license bureau will send out the forms to automobile owners who must present them at Seymour or another license bureau when purchasing plates. The 1937 plates will be black with gold lettering reflecting Purdue University colors.
Omer E. Henderson aged sixty six died at Sehneck Memorial Hospital at 10 05 p m Friday after five days of pneumonia He lived 39 years on the Baltimore and Ohio line and was a conductor He is survived by son Ermel B Henderson daughter Mrs Hazel Milburn two brothers Frank and Virgil Henderson a sister Mrs Frank Raper and granddaughter Mrs Lois Loman A funeral will be conducted at 3 PM Monday from Voss Mortuary with Rev S J Cross of First Methodist Church officiating Burial follows at Riverview Cemetery Friends may call after 7 PM tonight at the mortuary
Work on a run around for State Road 58 to bypass Salt Creek will start Monday after a 60 foot steel span bridge collapsed Thursday east of Kurtz. Traffic now detours via Kurtz Clearspring and State Road 135, lengthening the trip by about four miles between 135 and Kurtz.
London reports King Edward told his cabinet he intends to wed Wallis Simpson and cancelled engagements for the present. Supporters view the phrase as freeing him to handle the crisis, while Baldwin’s government remains opposed. Cabinet members stay near London over the weekend in case the king acts on the ultimatum.
Three truck drivers were fined on five charges in Edward Coleman’s Crothersville court after arrests on U S Route 31. Forrest Childers of Birmingham Alabama, Arthur House also of Birmingham and Jack Feris Smith of Irwin Missouri faced fines for lacking public service commission permits. Officers Gray LaMaster and Turner from the Seymour state police post made the checks at Crothersville.
James Leonard Barrett, 23, held in Seymour city jail awaiting forgery charges in Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown. Barrett confessed to forging a $9.35 check to pay for a watch at Davis Jewelry on East Second Street. He named a suspect alias and said he had visited a Seymour bank and another store before merchants reported the fraud. Six forged checks are in custody. police urge merchants to report irregularities promptly. Barrett formerly lived near Hazard Kentucky and now resides northwest of Scottsburg.
John Reiehle of North Vernon died at his son John Reiehle’s home in Connersville Friday. Funeral services were held Monday at the North Vernon Catholic Church with burial in North Vernon cemetery. His wife died about seven years ago. he had lived in North Vernon most of his life and was widely known in Seymour area.
Madrid reports a fresh aerial attack by ten fascist bombers following a four week siege. At least 20 people are fatally hurt with heavy damage across Cuatros Caminos and Rosales sectors near the model prison. Government warplanes clashed with insurgent pursuers as bombs fell near the American embassy.
Burial services for Hugh McCullough 65 of Mitchell were held Friday at Riverview Cemetery after a cerebral hemorrhage. He lived in Seymour years ago, worked as a telephone repairman, and moved to Mitchell about ten years ago. Survivors include sons Raymond and Frank McCullough in Chicago and Claude in Cincinnati, daughters Dorothy Marie and Mildred Motz in Chicago, and sisters Nell Myron of Seymour and Mrs. Walter Jones of Bloomington.
