OneCar Plunge Kills Two In Washington County
Two Nashville men, Horace Sharber 36 and Herbert Scruggs 33, died when a car plunged through a guard rail into the Muscatatuck River at Indiana routes 39 and 256 near Austin. A third occupant William Scruggs 19 was injured. Police traced the fourth person’s license and found it belonged to a driver who wasn’t present, later confirming three in the car. Troopers also logged a separate hit and run and a motorcycle crash two miles south of U.S. 50 on U.S. 31 injuring two Seymour youths, Jaynes 14 and Greathouse 16, with Jaynes cited for no operator’s license.

Brown Hosts Yule Parade Winners in Brownstown 1972
Santa made his first Yuletide appearance as Brownstown hosted a Christmas parade. The Peoples Bank float won first prize of 50 dollars, Brownstown Central Young Farmers second with 25, and Brownstown Pentecostal Church third with 15. Bands received 50 and 25 dollars respectively, with the hosting Brownstown Central High School band not competing for prize money.

More than 450 people attended the 3rd annual stockholders dinner of the Jackson County Farm Bureau Co operative Association at Seymour High School. Clifford Osterman reported profits of 150 808 for the year ending August 31 1972 on sales of 8 679 357 with net worth 2 230 562 and liabilities 2 180 716. He quoted Earl Butz on farmers working together and urged young farmers to use the co op as key to success. The invocation was by Rev J W Moyer of Brownstown St Peter's Lutheran Church.

Madrigal Dinner Dazzles Civic Arts Guild at Seymour Elks
About 140 attendees enjoyed a 16th century Madrigal dinner hosted by the Civic Arts Guild at the Seymour Elks Club. Costumed performers led by Earl D. Prout featured a brass quintet, madrigal singers, Morris dancers, and a boar's head procession with wassail. Decorations, banners, candles, and a towering Christmas tree framed the feast with carols and courtly pageantry.
