Ratcliff at 80 to retire from Jackson County Forest tower
Frank Ratcliff, longtime fire lookout on the skyline drive south of Brownstown, nears his 81st birthday and plans retirement with the state forest. He has served eight years as the oldest tower man, climbing daily from 8 a.m. to monitor fires and relay firefighting instructions, then contributing to general forest work when dangers are low. He expects no further work after leaving this job.

January Induction Call Set for Jackson County
Five Jackson County men will be inducted into the armed services and another six will undergo physical examinations on January 2, according to Mrs. Vivian Smith secretary of Selective Service Board No. 4. This is the highest induction number since May 1968 when seven were called. Two inductions and four examinations are slated for December 12, bringing 1968 totals to 70 inductions and 177 examinations.
