In November 1963 Seymour police chief Robert Gill reported 23 arrests and 27 charges, down from October. Traffic arrests fell, with 44 tickets on 49 charges, and 18 speeding incidents led traffic counts. Juvenile and other charges totaled 11 and 25 new cases were added.
Jackson County jury commissioners for 1965 were appointed today by Judge John M. Lewis of Seymour. Reappointed are Glen Zabel of Brownstown and Phillip L. Cordes Sr. of Seymour. Robertson, judge elect, concurred. They have served in 1964 and meet with the county clerk to draw lists for petit and grand juries for four circuit court terms each year.
City clerk treasurer Gaynelle Moritz reports parking meter receipts totaled 2095.85 in November, up 418.46 from October. Five collection days in November vs four in October boosted the total, with breakdowns of 418, 414.50, 435.60, 429.95 and 397.80 per Monday. Overtime parking tickets brought in 264, down from 312 in October.
Mrs. M. B. EuDaly, Sey mour Public Schools speech and hearing therapist, attended an inservice training session at the Elks Club in Shelbyville. Sponsored by the Indiana Department of Public Instruction and Shelbyville School Corporation, the featured speaker was Dr. Russell A. Working of Kettering Ohio, discussing disciplinary relationships between speech therapy and psychology.
The Columbus Post Office will replace Seymour as the regional sectional center for about 40 area post offices under the new ZIP code system, effective March 1, 1965. Richmond Anderson and Logansport centers will close. Muncie and Kokomo will assume roles. Increased efficiency drives the move, with Columbus chosen for its air stop, location, and proximity to Indianapolis and satellite offices. Seymour will remain a transport relay point and lose its sectional center status.

Jackson County final filing day shows Judge John M. Lew is, Lynn Roberts Jr., Tony Teipen, and Walter Kennedy reporting campaign expenses totaling 174? The Democratic Central Committee lists 11114.23 and the Republican Committee 4736.66. A Citizens For Goldwater Miller group reports 734.08 in expenses.
Dr. K Armand Fischer Louisville orthopedic surgeon clarified deposition testimony given in a board of public works meeting. He stated Cummins may have preexisting neck and back issues that the February 17 auto crash highlighted but did not confirm prior sprains.
After ten years of a backwards running pony on the left shoulder patch the Post Office Department orders the patch moved to the right shoulder so the pony gallops forward. The change aims to align the insignia with the mailman’s forward motion.
Mail carriers set to employ 200000 front-run ning horses for the left shoulder. Seymour postmen have not yet received them. The post office investigation confirms daily and Christmas mail will still reach destinations despite the pony mascot route.
U S spacecraft Mariner 4 entered a wild roll early today delaying a planned rocket firing to move it closer to Mars by at least 24 hours. Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientists loaded commands into its memory for later execution. The malfunction marked the first serious problem since launch. The report covers the roll, the planned ignition sequence, and the technicians efforts to recover the mission.
Federal agents in Mississippi detained 18 men including Sheriff Lawrence Rainey and Deputy Cecil Price over the June 1964 killings of three civil rights workers James Chaney Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner in the Meridian Philadelphia area. Authorities said 19 were charged with conspiring to interfere with federal rights and two with being accessories after the fact.
Former Columbus High School basketball star Jerry Butler, 26, was found guilty of second degree murder in the April 5 fatal shooting of Frank Tyler, 36, at Tyler’s decatur County home near Burney. The jury recommended life imprisonment. sentencing set for December 18.
Four freshmen from Seymour Gary Kovener Tim Michel Bill Foster and Mike Taylor were moved into Walnut Hall of Trees Center at Indiana University after initial uprooting. Five weeks later administration decided construction of a nearby residence center was too distracting for Walnut residents.
