Jury pool set for Allman murder trial in Jackson County
Jackson Circuit Court drew a 300 name special venire for the state case against Royal W. Bud Allman of Seymour indicted for first degree murder. Judge John M. Lewis ordered potential jurors not to report until notified. The initial 40 from the regular panel will be examined first, followed by 40 from the 300 name list if needed, with further groups called as needed to seat a jury.

Man pinned beneath tractor at field in Seymour area
Melvin Pugh aged 52 of Seymour R2 remained in fair condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after his tractor overturned while leveling a field. He was pinned for about 90 minutes beneath an iron drag tongue and lacerated his left leg. A Crothersville physician aided at the scene before transport by ambulance.

James N. Endicott, already a chamber board member for two years, was elected president of the Seymour Chamber of Commerce at a Monday board meeting at the Colony Chef. He succeeds Harold E. Jackson County names new public health nurse and bids approved
At the December meeting the Jackson County board appointed Mrs Dean McKain of Brownstown as public health nurse effective January 1 1963 replacing Mrs Margaret Horstman who will stay until then. The Graessle Mercer Co Seymour was awarded the county printing and office supplies contract for 1963 with Bedford Supply Co making a Class 3 bid. The Frederick Luther Co completed county records microfilming and a steel storage box will hold the films at Brownstown Loan & Trust Co. A special December 22 meeting will approve year end claims and pay highway and other employees before Christmas. The board set January 1-2 1963 for the annual meeting to receive bids for 1963 supplies. Two TV sets were donated to the Jackson County Home by Local 685 Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America and an antenna by the Brownstown Lions Club was accepted.

Seymour youth Julian T Elkins aged 23 escaped with minor injuries when his car left U S Alternate 31 north of Jonesville, struck fences after dodging a skunk, overturned twice. He was cited for reckless driving in justice court.

Gullett 23 of Crothersville died in a highway crash near Houston Missouri while an Army trainee at Fort Leonard Wood Also killed were his sister Sherrill and her husband Funeral services are set for Crothersville with military graveside rites to be performed by a Fort Knox color guard Gullett was born May 31 1939 in Indianapolis and spent most of his life in Crothersville He is survived by maternal grandparents and a half sister after his mother’s death in 1946.

Suspended Sentence Revoked In Seymour City Court
In Seymour city court Judge James L. Laupus revoked the suspended sentence of Virgil Steinkamp Jr and ordered him to serve the remaining three months and 21 days of a six month term at the Indiana state farm after his arrest on public intoxication. Me dora resident George McChestney 29 pleaded guilty to public intoxication and leaving the scene of a property damage accident receiving fines and costs totaling 43.75 dollars. He was arrested after officers observed him near his damaged car and a trail of water led to a damaged highway sign north of Seymour.

Leo Lynch operator of a Williams service station reported to state police he was robbed of 2200 cash and 400 in checks by a man with a 12 gauge shotgun on a county road. A warning shot was fired and the bandit fled on foot as Lynch stopped for an ice box in the road.

Banker Slays Wife Then Returns To Work
A 30 year old banker in Noblesville Indiana killed his wife 26 and then returned to his job as assistant cashier at the Arcadia Hamilton County Bank. He admitted striking her with a vise grip wrench and shooting her during a basement lunch hour quarrel. The crime occurred ten miles northwest of Arcadia and left three young children in the care of a neighbor.
