White River Flood Levels Rise and Crest Expected
White River stood two and a half feet above the 14 foot flood level and kept rising. Four area roads remained closed by high water after snow drifts thawed, with more rain or snow forecast for Tuesday. Ruth Everhart at Rockford reported 1.26 inches Saturday and 0.2 inches Sunday while temperatures swung from 63 to 39 degrees. The river surged seven and a half feet in 24 hours, with a 17 foot crest anticipated as readings showed 16.5 feet early today.

Plane Crash Kills Brother of Ex Seymour Pastor
John D. Boren 31 former Paoli High principal and brother of Rev Amos L. Boren pastor of Roberts Park Methodist in Indiana died in a chartered light plane crash 70 miles east of Superior Wisconsin during a snowstorm. Also killed was pilot Nick Niemi 53 of Duluth Minnesota. The crash happened Friday night in dense woods near Ladysmith Wisconsin as the craft returned from a business trip.

Ruth van der Tuuk a former Seymour resident died Saturday at her Highland Indiana home after a weeklong illness from a paralytic stroke. She was born in Seymour to J Chris and Ida Eckler. Several persons appeared before Mayor Donald L Heiwig in Seymour on public intoxication charges. Sherman E Helton of Seymour received 90 days at the state penal farm with $11 total costs after a $1 fine. Robert L Fish of Norman paid $20 total after a $10 fine. Carl Bloom of Seymour also paid $20 after a $10 fine. Anne Johnson of Columbus, about 32 and colored, paid $20 after a $10 fine and was arrested early Sunday.

Two Men Held on $10,000 Bond in Jackson Circuit Court
Truman Scott and Robert Weatherbee, claiming Louisville ties and brothers in law, are held in Jackson county jail on two counts burglary in the first degree and automobile banditry. Bond set at $5,000 on each count, total $10,000 per man. The alleged burglary occurred at Ernest Korte’s residence near Seymour on November 30. An additional affidavit awaits in Johnson Circuit Court at Franklin for a separate burglary. Scott reportedly has an extensive criminal record. Investigation continues.

Judge Oren O. Swails, longtime Jackson County attorney, was honored at the winter meeting of the Association at the Elks Club. He was admitted to the Jackson county bar on August 27, 1900, and later formed a partnership with the late John M. Lewis. Two Injured In East Tipton Street Collision
Two Brownstown youths were injured when a 1941 model coach stalled head on into a tree on East Tipton Street near South Park. Driver Frank Martin Jr. pleaded guilty to reckless driving and paid a total of 21.75 dollars in fines and costs. He suffered a broken jaw and facial injuries, while Paul Elstrad sustained facial injuries and a broken nose. Both were treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital and Bartholomew County Hospital before transfer.
