State Increases Aid To Schools In Seymour
Seymour public schools will receive about 2000 dollars more in state aid this year, adding one teaching unit to last year’s 50 for a total of 51. The rise follows higher enrollment and daily attendance, with 1556 total students and first grade numbers contributing to the increase. A 36 day attendance period from September to October determines aid, with next figures due early next year.

Damage totaling about 150 dollars occurred Friday afternoon in a collision at Fourth and Chestnut streets. Anna D. Ashcraft drove a 1948 sedan east on Fourth while Emma Schulte drove a 1948 coach. Schulte’s car struck the left rear fender of Schulte’s vehicle, she lost control and hit a 1941 coach owned by Glen L. Hauck parked 30 feet north of Fourth. City police investigated.

Brownstown expects the new whiteway lighting to go live by Christmas or by early January. Public Service Company of Indiana official Fred Nuss said 26 lights will illuminate the town with eight in the Ewing business district. Each 6000 lumen, about 300 watt fixture will stand 22 feet tall with an eight foot arm. Construction began Monday.
