Health officials report only two verified scabies cases in Jackson County after reviewing local complaints. Nearby Lawrence County shows 70 to 80 suspected cases in the last two weeks. diagnosis requires physician confirmation and prescription treatment.
Red Cross will station its bloodmobile at the American Legion Post from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a target of 85 pints. Emphasis on O positive and O negative donors due to universal applicability. In Seymour on November 20, 76 O type donations were recorded. Cytoprecipitate discovery aids hemophilia treatment, while about 350 Kentucky and southern Indiana hemophiliacs rely on home prep of concentrates.
Henry Reynolds a 46 year old Medora resident is listed in critical condition at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis after a tree fell on him while cutting timber on Gilbert Hill ten miles west of Brownstown. Police say Reynolds did not hear a warning due to his saw noise and suffered severe head injuries. The accident occurred at 1 15 p m Tuesday as Reynolds and another man used power saws to fell trees.
Repairmen work on the furnace at Brownstown Middle School as officials decide this afternoon whether classes can resume Thursday. Superintendent Dr. Robert T. Burton says he hopes students return, with an announcement to air on the local radio station.
About 450 people attended the Seymour High School Christmas concert at Shields Junior High Auditorium. Eighth grade musicians from Shields performed in two sections the Cadet Band and Chovaliers under directors Kermit Mann and James Fritz.
Seymour Indiana detective reports a theft at Mrs Viola Hehman 304 State street of over 20000 in coins and jewelry. The crime occurred at 4 pm in Hehmans Market with two vehicles outside and two women distracting the victim. Items stolen include 577 old silver dollars an 1805 quarter Eisenhower dollars 322 coin rolls a platinum bracelet a diamond necklace and three diamond rings. Police suspect a Chicago gypsy ring of 12 women and two men.
Jennings Circuit Judge Joseph Carson dismissed two vote recount petitions from the North Vernon city election. Gerald Eder and Paul Sandlin sought recounts after narrow losses to Howard Hendricks and Vernard Rice, but petitions failed on technical grounds. The 15 day filing limit had passed. amended petitions may be filed and a hearing date will be set.
Christopher C. May co chairs the Jackson County Bicentennial Commission and announces a $1,000 matching funds grant from the Indiana American Bicentennial Commission for upkeep on three covered bridges at Shieldstown Medora and Bell's Ford west of Seymour on Ind 258. The group had sought $2,500 and will source the match from county commissioners or the Park and Recreation Board.
In Jackson County an organizational meeting for a five county Big Brother Big Sister program is set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Public Service Indiana. Executive director Mrs Diana Knight will explain how the group operates and its aim to pair children from single parent families with same sex adult friends. Both volunteers and youngsters needing mentors are invited.
