County Accepts Bids on Highway Supplies

Jackson County board of commissioners opened bids for highway supplies on Monday. Sinclair Oil Co. of Clermont won the gasoline and diesel fuel contract with rates including 14.34 cents per gallon for regular gas and 12.14 cents for diesel No. 2. Additional bids came from American Oil Co. of Detroit and Marathon Oil Co. of Indianapolis. All crushed stone bids were accepted from multiple vendors with prices by grade. General and heavy vehicle repair parts bids were also accepted from several suppliers.

Cable TV Franchises Discussed At City Hall Hearing

A Seymour committee held a public meeting to consider a cable TV franchise for Seymour. Two firms, Seymour Cable TV Inc. and See More Cable TV Inc. of Indianapolis, proposed similar systems with channels 3 4 6 8 11 32 and more. The panel plans a recommendation to the council after year start, with participation voluntary for residents.

Seymour Teenager Hurt In Auto Crash Near Seymour

Rickie J. Burke, 16, of Seymour, listed in satisfactory condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a 6:15 p.m. collision on Ind 11 when a 1967 pickup driven by Floyd J. Stuckwisch struck the stalled 1958 sedan Burke and two passengers were pushing. Burke was knocked 75 feet into a fence as the car was totaled and the truck damaged about $400, per state police Trooper Robert Stanley.

An Alaska bound Wien Consolidated twin engine plane crashed into Spotsy Lake on a cold windy day killing 39 aboard. FAA and NTSB teams will investigate the crash site amid subzero temperatures and heavy winds.

Freetown Mail Delivery Program Expands

The Seymour Daily Tribune announces a new delivery route in Freetown by Motor Carrier Lawrence Ruddick starting Saturday. Boxes are being erected today and will be finished by Friday. Subscribers are urged to cooperate to speed service for Freetown residents.

Whitcombs to Attend Republican Governors Conference in Palm Springs

Governor-elect Edgar D. Whitcomb of Seymour and his wife will join about 34 governors and governors-elect at a Republican Governors Association meeting in Palm Springs California. Nixon Agnew and Ronald Reagan host the event with sessions on federal state and local relations. The Whitcombs travel from Indianapolis Wednesday morning by air with aides, and a larger party follows on a second plane.

Suspect Held In Robbery Attempt

A 16 year old Seymour youth, Michael G. Adams, was held by juvenile authorities in Brownstown over an alleged attempted strong arm robbery of a 73 year old woman on Ewing street. He was arrested at 9 18 p m after police identified him and questioned several youths. The victim fell but avoided hospital care.

Light Snow Forecast For Local Area Tonight

Light snow flurries are forecast with no significant accumulations. Colder weather follows with partly cloudy skies and highs in the 20s despite above freezing readings this morning. Tonight’s lows are expected in the upper 20s north and around 30 in the south as Wednesday brings further cold air.
