Jackson county and the state plan a 1949 general real estate reassessment. J G Newsom says about 3 million dollars of property in Jackson county escapes taxation now, potentially yielding about 105 900 additional local revenue when assessed next year.
Jackson county candidates filed campaign expense reports before the November 2 general election deadline set by law. Democratic nominee Christopher D. Moritz reported $324.15 in expenses with Jackson County Clerk Joe Goss, while Earl Wilson filed in Lawrence County and James Spurgeon reported $99.15 for joint state representative race.
Three divorces were granted Thursday in Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown. Sophronie Callahan was granted a divorce from Martin Callahan and restoration of her maiden name Sophronie Taylor was ordered. John Burrell was granted a divorce from Genevieve Burrell. Melvin Childers was granted a divorce from Juanita E S Childers and the plaintiff was ordered to be prohibited from remarrying for two years.
Trinity Methodist Church marks 25 years since its present building opened with daylong services. 128 members over 25 years and 24 over 50 years will be honored, oldest member a member since 1868. Speakers include Dr Clyde S Black and former pastors. Sunday School at 9 30, worship at 10 30, basket dinner at noon, fellowship service at 1 30.
Central Christian Church launches a nursery for preschool children during morning worship from 10 15 to 11 30. A room in the Girls Club will house beds play pens and toys with mothers supervising. Mrs George Florence leads in December with help from Pre School Mothers Club volunteers.
The Senior class of Shields High staged the three act comedy Free Advice in the girls gymnasium to a large, appreciative audience after a matinee. Cast included Jack Jackson Frank Adams Carmen Smallwood Patsy Jerry Birge Sandy Marilyn Eder Alberta Jean Downey Ruth, Barbara Ahlbrand Sissy Davis Gertrude Mueller Nadine with Ethel Fleartsease offering counsel to the family and advancing the plot before a page 8, column 5 continuation.
The Seymour plant of Reliance Manufacturing Co will shift from dress shirts to sports shirts due to demand. Other Reliance south plants already produce sports shirts. supplies are delayed and some departments are down. Samples and patterns will be made next week, with the cutting department idle this week during the change over.
A revival began Tuesday night at Peter's Switch Church of the Nazarene and continues with evangelist Langley Gullett of Pineville Kentucky preaching "old-fashioned Bible Holiness." Services start at 7:30 p.m. nightly through December 12 with special evangelistic singing. Pastor Rev. Thomas May urges attendance.

A yet unnamed aircraft fired on three San Diego Tuna Clippers off Nicaragua's coast, including the Liberator City of San Diego and Sun Ray. No damage was reported, according to Harold Gray of the American Tuna Boat Association. The Sun Ray’s skipper Carl Soares relayed a telegram with the incident details.

Miss Gaynelle Moritz of Jackson county won the post of treasurer of the Indiana Recorders Association at its annual meeting in Indianapolis joining William Carter of Columbus as southern vice president. Moritz and Carter sit on the association’s legislative committee and attended by Jackson county officials including James E. Cummings as part of the 14th annual convention.
Over 3 000 people crowded North Vernon streets for the Jennings county Christmas season kickoff. Santa arrived by airplane at the airport and led a parade featuring the Saddle Club and North Vernon High School band. The switch was thrown to light the streets as floats and walking units followed. Prizes went to North Vernon Exchange Club for a Communist versus Americanism float, Psi Iota Xi sorority, and the Business and Professional Women's Club.
Adolph Zollman superintendent of Seymour public schools leads elementary principals from Riley Washington Emerson and Lincoln schools to Bloomington for an elementary principals meeting. Also traveling were Joe Bevers Verne Kutch Vera Carter and J A Brackemyre.
A district wide nurse recruitment drive is under way with a luncheon for ministers and WSCS presidents at Osgood Methodist Church on December 14. Edward Gallahue of Indianapolis funds luncheons across 17 districts to generate 1500 nursing prospects, aiming to enroll 100 girls in February at The Methodist Hospital nursing training program.
Seymour's downtown parking meters yielded $366 during last week, including Thanksgiving Day when meters were not enforced, city clerk-treasurer Forrest L. Kysar said. Fire at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Allman Jr on 14th street Woodstock caused extensive damage to two rooms from water and flames. Neighbors aided the family and extinguished the blaze, with loss believed covered by insurance.

Stephen Piazza the 39 year old owner of a Brooklyn coal firm was buried up to the chin in an avalanche of coal at the bottom of a 60 foot silo. Albert McVay 36 lowered himself by a rope and cleared the blocking coal for 45 minutes before rescuers pulled them to safety. Piazza thanked McVay as he was placed in an ambulance.
