County Commission bids awarded and re-bid notices issued
Commissioners opened bids at the Brownstown courthouse and awarded several county supply contracts. Bids for ready mixed concrete were rejected and will be re bid December 22 at 9 a.m. due to bid bonds and specification issues. No bridge lumber bids were received and will be re bid. Sheriff’s auto supplies went to Ellerman’s Sinclair and George’s of Seymour won tires and tubes. Graessle Mercer Seymour won office supplies and Quill n Frill House Seymour won pencils and paper.

Brownstown Adopts Flood Plain Zoning Ordinance
The Brownstown Town Board approved a flood plain zoning ordinance after a public hearing at town hall. The flood prone area is in the northwest near Kieffer Paper Mills. Residents may now purchase flood insurance as the ordinance, prepared by the Flood Plain Commission, received approval from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Public copies of the final report ordinance and zone map are in the clerk treasurer's office.

County Seeks Higher Federal Land Revenue to Replace Taxes
Rep Lee Hamilton introduces a bill to boost county shares from federal lands fivefold or more to offset lost property taxes. Jackson County received 3221.75. proposed funding could reach 16125. The Hoosier National Forest covers 21500 acres and currently yields 0.25 of gross revenues per state.
