Prompted by last year’s success the Seymour Chamber of Commerce will repeat the home lighting contest with I L Frost as general chairman. Prizes will be displayed in the Public Service Company window on South Chestnut street after they are collected. The Christmas parade was canceled due to finances and a blizzard ruined plans for November 25. A new shipment of evergreen roping and 36 inch wreaths is en route.

Roads Restored After Heavy Snow Hit Seymour Area
Seymour sub district crews under Claude Wheeler cleared drifted snow from state and federal roads with 2176 man hours logged. Two routes remained one way while bridge work on U.S. Route 31 southeast of Seymour progressed toward a December 15 opening.

Eight From Here Join Army USAF in December Enlistments
Eight Jackson county youths enlisted in the U S Army and Air Force during November, per Air Force recruiter Master Sergeant Charles D Huffman. Recruits include Carl Patterson Seymour Thomas Disney Seymour James Reece North Vernon Pleas McKinney Butlerville Clarence Edmonds Seymour Ervin Reece North Vernon Charles Culp Seymour and Robert Moody Seymour. Huffman said December openings are wide for both services and cited a USAF order allowing men with two dependents to enlist if other requirements are met.

Harold R. Hoeferkamp, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Edward Hoeferkamp of Jonesville, earns a principal appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point for 1951. House of Magic to Perform at Shields High School
General Electric's House of Magic will be shown at Shields High School Auditorium Tuesday night December 5 at 7 30. The hour long program features scientific phenomena and demonstrations including a propeller that appears to stand still via a stroboscopic light and a training train responding to voice commands. Historic show has entertained 13 000 000 people and includes 2 500 000 at the New York World's Fair.

Auto Parked During Game Damaged by Hit Run
A 1950 model sedan owned by Emrole Spurgeon of Columbus formerly Seymour was damaged Friday night by a hit run while parked on the east side of Poplar street near Fifth street. Police say another car backed into the left front, damaging the fender grill and headlight, with damage estimated at 150 dollars.

Funeral Rites Monday for Thomas A Mathison
Funeral services for Thomas A Mathison 73 of Indianapolis will be held Monday at 2 PM from Kovener Funeral Home Crothersville with Rev Walter Moseley in charge. 15 Day Kroger Truck Drivers Strike Ends
Louisville Ky Dec 2 4 settlement of a 15 day strike by AFL Teamsters Local 89 union truck drivers. The union approved a 13 cent per hour pay raise bringing rates from 1.40 to 1.64 an hour. Auto Strikes Bridge on State Road 39
Calvin May of Chicago escaped injury when his 1949 sedan struck the right side of a low bridge on State Road 39 about 250 yards from the junction with State Road 250 south of Seymour. May said he had been released from a hospital for a nervous ailment and was en route to his son's home in Louisville. He had driven onto the wrong road and did not know why he hit the bridge. the bridge itself was not damaged.
