New Standard Set For Corn Purchase
Jackson county dealers set a hundredweight basis for corn purchases to meet a December one deadline and still obtain 56 pounds of shelled corn from 70 pounds of ear corn. Officials said the change reflects high moisture this year and does not alter the price paid to farmers. The 100 pound basis aligns with a 70 pound per bushel standard and avoids a post December 1 68 pound per bushel requirement. Other areas have long used this standard.

Youth Faces Burglary Charge in Browns Town
Arthur Lorig aged 16 of Battle Creek is charged in Jackson Circuit Court with second degree burglary for breaking a Tiemeier Jewelry Store display window and stealing $200 worth of jewelry. He was arrested after the break in and has not yet been arraigned. He was reported on parole from Boys Vocational School and has multiple vagrancy records across three states. The charge carries an indeterminate sentence of two to five years if convicted.

They pried open a Scottsburg basement window, rifled a safe and left sealed envelopes from used book sales scattered on the floor. Derailed locomotive blocks street crossing near Seymour plant
A Pennsylvania Railroad engine derailed on a switch just east of the Seymour plant of the Vincennes Packing Corporation. The locomotive blocked Ninth Street west of Chestnut Street this morning. it was moved a short distance, ties were marked, and one switch rail broken. The engine stayed upright after the incident.

A sideswipe on U S Route 31 near the Jersey Bridge south of Crothersville caused about 200 dollars damage to two vehicles. James A Hixenbaugh Mishawaka drove a 1949 two ton truck with another truck atop it. Harold C McNeal Monroe Center Ill drove a 1937 sedan owned by Leon Goodwin Richmond Ind. The sedan turned around and faced south after the impact. State police officers Walter G LaMaster and Jack Curry investigated.
