City Building Bond Issue Clears Hurdle

Downtown Seymour Stores Offer Extra Christmas Shopping Hours
Downtown Seymour shops will stay open all day Wednesday and each Wednesday until Christmas to ease holiday buying. Under a Chamber policy, stores stay open two weekends and Dec 12 through 23 until 9 p.m. Some stores will also stay open nightly except Sundays. Christmas Eve hours end in the late afternoon.

Hearing On Marion School Vote Held
About 100 residents attended a public hearing at Marion township school on December 7 regarding a referendum on disannexation. Jennings County schools superintendent Robert Powell explained the nonbinding inquiry aims to inform the Jennings County board and potential tax implications if western Marion joins Vernon Township. Ship Morrell sinks on Lake Huron amid 28 feared dead
Rescue teams hunted the stormy Lake Huron area for the Daniel J Morrell after it broke in two and sank 20 miles northeast of Harbor Beach. Twenty-nine crewmen were aboard. only one survivor, Dennis Hale, was recovered from a liferaft as frigid conditions hampered the search for other missing crew.
