Mrs Edna Moritz Dies Active Seymour Church Leader
Mrs. Edna Mae Moritz 51 of 515 East Second Street died early this morning at Schneck Memorial Hospital after a six month illness. She was an active member and leader of the Seymour Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as treasurer Sunday School teacher and assistant minister. Born February 7 1896 in Jennings County she was married August 28 1918 to Edward D Moritz who survives. Also surviving are her mother Frances Crockett a brother Howard Crockett and many friends. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Voss Mortuary with Rev D E Caslow in charge burial Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. tonight.

Two Sheds Damaged by Fire on West Second Street
Two sheds were damaged by fire this afternoon behind the homes of Frank C. Gilbert and Garnet Welch on West Second Street. The Gilbert shed sustained greater damage after leaves burning in an alley near the Welch shed spread to grass and ignited the Gilbert structure. Firefighters also responded to a Sunday afternoon basement fire at a residence at Homestead avenue and Elm street where the basement filled with smoke and an ironing board was damaged.

Record cold grips Seymour with 11 degree low
Severe cold swept the Seymour area with a new low of 11 degrees on Saturday night and 14 on Sunday. Temperatures stayed well below freezing for a stretch as White River at Rockford stood at 1.9 feet. The cold wave extended from the region to the eastern seaboard and gulf states with readings as low as 24 degrees in Rome, Georgia.

More than 200 people from 13 Christian churches of Jackson county attended a Fifth Sunday night gathering at Central Christian Church. Dr. Henry Noble Sherwood of Indianapolis spoke on Essentials of Christian Living, with several pastors leading invocations and prayers. The next county meeting is set for February 29 and a Christmas gathering for the county women’s group is planned December 12 at 7 30 PM.

Man Sentenced For Assault In Jackson County Court
Judge George H. Gossman convicts Lindsey Davenport of assault in Jackson Circuit Court at Brownstown and imposes a $100 fine, $25.35 costs, and a six month penal farm sentence. Otis Davenport is found not guilty. Olive Creacy awarding $2,500 damages in related assault case. New filings include bank and divorce actions. several divorces granted. Howard Boyd is acquitted on two assault charges.

Woman Hurt Man Arrested in Crash
Ella Beatty suffered minor cuts and bruises Saturday night when a car carrying William Beatty struck the rear of Herman F. Holle’s southbound auto on U S Alternate Road 31.2 miles north of Walesboro. Beatty was arrested for operating under the influence by Cpl. Otha E. Bishop and Officer Lawrence Conway. No one was hurt when Clarence Ackeret's 1947 car rolled from a Seymour service station and struck a Greyhound bus driven by Fred H. McNorton on Broadway north of Tipton. both vehicles sustained about $25 damage.

Senate approves Truman aid bill moves toward swift passage
The House committee restored 38 million of 108 million cut from the western Europe aid program and kept 60 million for China. Seattle Air Crash Kills 7 and Hurts 21
