City planners in Seymour announce a reception and air tour as Santa Claus arrives in the 1931 Yuletide season. A special pilot will navigate the route, ensuring a full viewing tour of Jackson County and nearby areas on December 5.
Santa writes that he will arrive by plane on Saturday December 5 to tour the county in the morning. He says he cannot bring a sleigh and reindeer that early and hopes all the children have been good so he can give them presents at Christmas.
The route lists numerous towns as Santa plans to drop printed invitations and make Seymour his headquarters. He will land at White River Airport and enter the city in a special sleigh since his reindeer cannot cope with warm weather. Downtown stores will be decorated and gifts distributed, with multiple trips planned to nearby communities.
A 67 year old Chicago grandmother, Anna Baranski, was found guilty by a judge alone in criminal court yesterday. The conviction carries a possible 1 to 20 year sentence, but the judge deferred judgment and defense lawyers said they would seek a new trial.
A woman identified as Goldie Hoffmeier reported being robbed and assaulted by two men on East Laurel Street around 1 am. She lost her hat and beads, and the attackers tore off her shoe heels before fleeing. Mrs Harriet Hargrove aided the victim and police were notified.
Mrs Ellen Fish 75 lifelong Jackson County resident died at her home near Norman Station at 6 o clock Monday. Born near Maumee March 15 1856 she was married to Jason Fish in 1885 and lived near Norman Station since. Survived by daughter Eth el Mae McKinney two granddaughters one grandson and one great granddaughter. Funeral at Liberty Church Wednesday 1:30 led by Rev Coe with Liberty Cemetery burial.
Preparations to drag the river two miles north of Jonesville near the Scalf home in an effort to locate eighteen year old Ida May Scalf who disappeared Saturday after threatening to take her own life. Seymour police assist in the search as the girl is believed to be missing.
Seymour recorded twenty three thefts hold ups robberies and attempted larceny in November with a busy weekend on November fourteen as three filling stations and a grocery store were entered. A $140 theft at Fenton grocery and small losses at Checkered and Diamond stations were reported. Two intoxication arrests occurred and a robbery near the jungle camp caused bodily harm to no more than a rough incident.
San Francisco's 1916 Preparedness Day bombing killed ten and injured forty as a timing device exploded near Market Street during a 50,000 strong parade. The blast sent debris across the crowd and delayed the march before investigators found bits of a cheap suitcase connecting to the case.
George Judd of this city lost 80 dollars to two robbers who stopped him near India napolis Avenue and Hamer's coal office. Judd was robbed with a pistol-like threat as he walked. 64 dollars belonged to the Eagles lodge and 16 to Judd. Police have no clues to the attackers.

Major General Smedley D Butler retired Marine told a Chicago audience that keeping out of wars requires simple words and treaties with a show of force. He argued against disarmament while Rev Preston Bradley urged caution, saying wars create bigger problems and that treaties fail to assure peace.
Governor James Rolph Jr urged three and a half hours for hearing James J. Walker as he pleads for Tom Mooney's freedom. Walker, unwell but resolved, appears in San Francisco court to challenge a 15 year bomb plot conviction. Frank Walsh and Aaron Sapiro accompany Mooney’s defense.
Seymour's hobo camp east of the city was dismantled after railroad detective W. W. McGuerty and Seymour police dispersed about twenty five to thirty hoboes on November 7. The camp, once famed in bumdom, left only ashes and scattered remnants as a bare plot remained.

Chicago December 1 B W Snow director of the Federation of American Business told the American Association of creamery butter manufacturers annual convention that the coming Congressional session threatens citizens from industry leaders to workers. He said Congress has long been a menace to business and will seek legislation to add to government burdens. Snow warned progressive socialistic experiments and expanding government functions erode individual control and increase government competition with citizens. He claimed government intrusion in more than eighty industries has helped produce a deficit already half accumulated and the other half certain.
