A generator fire at the Jen-Acres egg complex east of North Vernon destroyed two wings with about 100 000 layers. Loss estimated at 750 000 dollars for layers eggs and equipment. Fire spread before being stopped by volunteers. rebuilding planned.

Salem firm named apparent low bidder for Muscatatuck River bridge
Winslow Construction Co. of Salem is expected to receive the Muscatatuck River Bridge contract with a low bid of 313 837. The project on the Jackson Scott County line east of Crothersville will use a continuous I beam design with five spans and a 28 foot roadway. Costs split among federal state and county funds with Jackson and Scott Counties covering local portions. Additional bids opened include widening U S 41 and U S 31 with several companies low on each project and multiple county bids listed for various Indiana routes.
