Budget Trimmed 10 Cents in City Tax Rate Approval
Seymour common council reduced the 1967 general fund levy by nine cents to 2.03 and adopted a 2.76 overall tax rate to fund next year’s budget. Final readings passed unanimously on three ordinances covering levy, salaries, and budget. The council cut a 12,000 insurance line by 2,000 and removed a 1 cent street fund. Public hearing had no taxpayers present before action.

Towns Adopt Budgets Unchanged in Jackson County
Three civil town boards in Jackson County Brownstown Crothersville and Medora met Monday night and adopted the 1967 tax rates and budgets without changes. Brownstown levy 1.75 raises 59403 on 3382990 valuation Crothersville 2.02 raises 31370 on 1567950 valuation Medora 1.42 raises 12783 on 898730 valuation. The boards will send the budgets to the county auditor by Sept 9 for review by the county tax adjustment board Sept 12. The state board will determine final rates at a Browns town hearing.

Four Vehicle Pile Up Injures Two Near Brownstown
Early today two separate two car crashes on U S 50 near Ind 135 west of Brownstown injured two drivers. Ethel Adams 50 Brownstown and Glen Bane 26 Medora required hospital treatment after the foggy intersection crash involving Willard Goble 69 Freetown and Tony Kidd 19 Medora. Total damage about 2800 dollars with Goble charged for failure to yield.

Columbus Man Injured When Train Hits Auto Here
A Columbus man Charles R. Harrison aged 42 was listed in good condition at Schneck Memorial Hospital after his 1964 four door car was demolished by a Baltimore and Ohio diesel locomotive at 8 07 p m on O Brien street crossing. Harrison ignored a flagman and flashing signals and the engine dragged the auto about 60 feet. Police report the flasher unit worked. Harrison was cited for failure to stop at a grade crossing. Three similar wrecks occurred in Seymour in 10 days with no serious injuries.
