Mrs Anna Lyles and her six month old Telitha Jeanette died at the scene. her father James Thompson was critically hurt. The crash occurred about 9 50 Tuesday morning on US Road 31 near Salem with several witnesses recounting events as Thompson cannot recall details. Funeral services were held in Salem after the bodies were returned there from hospital treatment.

Martin J. Carpenter age sixty nine died at his Crothersville area home at 8:30 Tuesday after a four and a half year illness. In a flood swept arroyo the Golden State Limited derailed injuring over twenty and killing eight. Repair crews waited for the torrent to subside as a board of inquiry formed to investigate the Tuesday wreck. The injured received care in hospitals and hotels while survivors were evacuated.

Concrete Pour Underway on West Sixth Street Bridge
Workmen of the Vincennes Bridge Company poured concrete for the east abutment of a new pony truss bridge on the West Sixth street road between the city limits and the White River bridge. Supervisor Emil F. Zabel said wrecking the falsework and erecting steel would start in days. The seven foot high, sixty foot long structure replaces a fifty foot bridge that collapsed after flooding.
