Merchants who placed orders months ago are positioned to offer unusual values as prices across all merchandise rise under the new program. Optimism replaces doubt with anticipated sharp advances around September 1 when new taxes and other factors take effect.
Notice filed by James A. Cox trustee and attorney Coulter Montgomery states Lord Reed will undergo further examination at 10 o clock Wednesday morning August 30 in Federal court at New Albany. Reed was adjudicated bankrupt about July 15 and Cox was appointed trustee shortly after. first creditors meeting held August 4.
The civilian conservation corps camp in Tell City was selected as the outstanding camp in southern Indiana. Nine camps form the district and a CCC headquarters team from Indianapolis inspected the Tell City site Friday. Camp roster includes boys from Columbus, Edinburgh, Hope and Jonesville. Sergeant William A. Sebastian, formerly Columbus National Guard instructor, is now first sergeant at Tell City.

An explosion in a Fer ry street Celluloid Company building killed a man and a girl and badly burned others. Three injured workers were rushed to St James Hospital in serious condition.
Fort Wayne Indiana. August 23. Miss Clara Baumgartner twenty years old suffered severe burns when a day bed she slept on caught fire in the apartment of Mr and Mrs Donald Allman Local fire crews fought the blaze and the injured woman was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Penu Indiana August 23 H Hoff man fifty one years old of Detroit Michigan was seriously hurt when hit by an automobile driven by Lea Ramsey aged fifty eight of Mon day Hoffman suffered a minor skull fracture and a badly cut right arm. The second item notes Mrs Vande bur at Clay Center Kansas reports a goose with two dimes and shiny trinkets in its craw.
Harry Rodman a 33 year old attorney who worked in Columbus and Brownstown is jailed in Columbus on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. Bond is set at 100. He allegedly took 100 from Percifield by promising a deed to property in East Columbus while Heitz and Malinda Heitz faced a related robbery investigation. The deeded property supposedly secured his legal services to secure Heitz's release. The Bartholomew circuit court filed the charge last fall after his departure from Columbus.
Mary Harrel of Bedford and Irene Lutes of Bloomington visit relatives while other locals travel to see kin. Mrs. Ella Mitehner and Dean Carter join Fd Mitehner near Jasonville. Miller clan visits Bloomington and Salem. The Cornetts reunion will be held Sunday at the grove.
Dudleytown residents report socials with the Brandt and Ude families from Seymour. Edward Christopher hosts guests as the Osterman family entertained Friday. The baseball team beat Seymour Ramblers 8 to 1 as the second squad fell to Essentine. George Schrader Jr. returns home. Fred Christopher spends time in Louisville on business. Henry Holtman and family attend church. Rev Julius Acker visits relatives Friday.
Muncie Indiana Ball State Teachers College schedules the fall quarter opening for Monday afternoon September 11 with freshmen convocation at Assembly Hall at 1 o'clock. A four day orientation runs September 11 through 14, with all freshmen expected to participate.
Arthur Boicourt of Peru spent Tuesday with George Boicourt and family. Hollis Murphy and family of Illinois are visiting relatives here. Glenna Noblitt of Columbius visits this week with cousin Eleanor Polley. Louis Wetzel and family of Crothersville spent Sunday with Charles Bedel and wife. Fred Watkins made a business trip to Vincennes Saturday. George Carpenter of Indianapolis spent Monday with his parents. Harold Collman and family visited Crothersville. Mr and Mrs Fred Watkins spent Tuesday and Wednesday with relatives at New Albany. Rev J C Walton of Louisville will begin a revival meeting here Monday night. Everybody invited to attend these services. Mrs J Z Bard visited Saturday with Mrs Rosa Sage.
Funeral services for Mrs Emily Puorkhiser of Mitchell will be conducted in Mitchell Thursday morning. The obituary notes she died Tuesday morning and that she was well known in the community.
