A Louisville soldier injured in a one car crash on I 65 near Seymour cites wet pavement as the cause. Two other separate mishaps on U S 50 near the Jackson Jennings line and near Hayden in Jennings County left a North Vernon man with a broken nose and minor injuries.

Cold Front Brings Rain and Cooler Temperatures
A northwest to southeast cold front moved into the area bringing showers and a forecast of more rain through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis predicts cooler afternoon temperatures in Jackson County by Wednesday, with highs in the mid to upper 80s and overnight lows around 60s. Mrs. Ruth Everhart noted a Monday high of 89 and overnight 64, as the White River at Rockford stood at 1.1 feet at 7 am.

Indiana Allows New Residents to Vote in All Elections
Jackson County clerk Loyd R. Jones reports a state wide change removing the six month residency rule for state and local elections. Eligible voters must live in the township 60 days and in the precinct 30 days, with President and Vice President voting requiring 30 days state residence. Deputy registrars and local offices will register voters until Sept. 23 with late signup possible until Oct. 10 at Brownstown.

Body of Seymour youth found near Memphis Clark County
Gilbert A. Schoenfelder Jr., 18, a Seymour native living in Memphis area, was found beside Penn Central tracks a mile south of Memphis. Coroner Edwin Coots ruled death from a fractured skull and internal injuries. An investigation continues with sheriff and coroner on scene. he previously worked at a Jeffersonville service station and was a member of Apostolic Pentecostal Tabernacle. He is survived by his parents, a brother, and two sisters. Funeral arrangements noted on back page.

A summer Reading Club across Seymour Crothersville and the bookmobile libraries enrolled 804 youngsters. Seymour reported 362 members Bookmobile 337 Crothersville 105. To finish the club readers completed 10 pirate coin marked books. Movie parties followed with 210 Seymour participants and 35 Crothersville attendees.

County conservation officers get new ambassador cars
Jackson County’s two conservation officers James Olmstead and Lyman Goben now patrol in two new Ambassador series autos supplied by the State of Indiana. The vehicles are radio equipped and display the Indiana Conservation Officer shield. The officers join 141 statewide who are receiving new cars every 50 000 miles or two years. Assistant details note Goben’s 5 years in the county and Olmstead’s 20 year tenure, with Goben previously serving 15 years in Scott County. A 1972 General Assembly law grants full police powers to conservation officers. An emergency number 358 2141 is listed for 24 hour contact.
