New Truck Explodes Near Scottsburg on U S 50
A 1968 tandem dump truck driven by John Boas of Scottsburg exploded on U S 50 at Airport Road around 10 20 am. The transmission oil sprayed inside the cab and likely ignited from wiring, gutting the cab but not the motor. Firefighters from Jackson-Washington Township and state officials contained the blaze. loss amount undetermined.

Nelson Nowling, 51, was hunting with an antique 12 gauge bolt action shotgun when it discharged backward and struck above his eye. He suffered bruising and a cut but kept his vision. He received treatment at Schneck Memorial Hospital emergency room.
