Crowds filled the county fair through the week as rain delayed events. Final free acts peak at 10 tonight with 4 H dress displays drawing interest and ribbons awarded to prize garments. Visitors from nearby towns thronged the midway while traffic officers managed crowded parking at the park.
Tonight features a 7 30 band concert directed by Adolph Steinwedel followed by Osai Troupe at 7 35 and The Erma Trio at 7 45. The schedule continues with a 8 10 band concert 10 00 Aerial Flowers Trio and 10 10 Hoshi Slide For Life.
After midnight the fair ends at Shields Park with tear down to begin for moving on. Large crowds attended sessions with favorable weather except a Thursday shower. Concessions reported strong business and midway receipts, final acts moved to 10 pm to aid dismantling, and many exhibits being removed as the week closes. Continued on page 4.
On January 1 1934 Jackson county schools are expected to receive at least 27800 according to estimates by Clarence A. Jackson director of the gross income tax division. C H Wiethoff announces an intensive citywide campaign to promote the National Recovery Administration. Teams will visit every business firm and household to tally NRA affiliation and payroll effects, collecting data for Indianapolis and Washington to compare employment trends and payroll changes.
Completion of oiling projects near Seymour includes US Road 31 from two miles south of Columbus to the county line north of Seymour. State Road 46 from Nashville to Columbus begins Monday and ends Saturday August 26. State Road 4 from Scottsburg to east of Salem finishes tomorrow. No detours. drivers urged to proceed carefully. Detours on state and federal roads announced by the highway commission include a paving detour on Road 3 via Warren fair grav.
Barbara Ann Green three year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy Green of Oak and Maple Streets was hurt Friday afternoon when struck by a light coupe driven by Francis Horn of West Tipton Street near Oak Street. She suffered cuts and bruises and was treated at Schneck Memorial Hospital before being returned home. Horn said the child ran into the street as he approached after starting to cross. He swerved and braked but hit the child and then struck a pole at the intersection.
The Seymour Daily Tribune enrolled under the National Recovery Act after adopting the American Newspaper Publishers' Association code. The paper revised its plan of operation, reduced hours without wage cuts, added staff, and introduced a partial night shift in the composing department while expanding the day force to maintain its high standards.
Charles Vogel seventy four prominent retired feed merchant died at 11 15 this morning at his home 315 West Bruce street after a weeklong illness with a serious condition since Monday He was a leading Seymour merchant before retirement five years ago For about eighteen years he ran Vogel Feed Store at Tipton and Carter streets relinquishing in 1928 to his sons Albert and Edwin who now operate the business Vogel was born February 2 1859 in Milwaukee the son of John and Augusta Vogel and moved to Jackson county as a boy. Fort Worth reports Winthrop Rockefeller dining with a Yale friend as an armed guard and federal agents stand by. The 21 year old Rockefeller, traveling from Houston, returns to New York that night after dinner at W. H. Slay Jr.’s home. Agents with pistols and a sub machine gun guard the residence and airport route. Rockefeller declines to comment on security and jokes about kidnappers.

Fort Wayne bulletin reports four dead and two critically injured when an automobile is struck by a Wabash passenger train at a street crossing. Victims include James R. Gray of Toledo and Mrs. Gray, with daughter Nettie Blanche Gray, eight, among the deceased.

Fred Davie Cummings twenty one of Norman Station died at home Friday after a four year illness. Funeral services will be at Norman Christian Church at 1 30 Sunday and burial at MN Cemetery. He moved to the county in 1919 and was born in Zelma India. Survived by parents Clarence and Lena, brother Herbert, sisters Helen Vera and Grace Indiana. One brother Glenn D died in infancy.
