The Seymour Community Schools designated duties for 181 teachers administrators and staff for the 1968 69 school year with enrollment set for Friday Aug 30. Superintendent Robert B Bullett announced the teaching staff is complete and listed administrators supervisors and special teachers and the 44 members at Seymour Senior High School.

Suspect Caught After Tavern Theft in Seymour
Freddie C. Bledsoe, 21, a Harlan County native with Seymour address, was arrested after allegedly taking money from Paul’s Place at 116 East Second Street. He reportedly admitted stealing over $400 and planned to leave Seymour for Austin, facing a preliminary hearing and $1,000 bond.

Jackson County Society for Crippled Children and Adults elected officers for the coming year at its annual meeting. Bill Robinson was re elected president and Charles F Lewis became vice president. Mrs Douglas Gill was re elected treasurer and Mrs Thomas Groce was chosen secretary. Officers begin terms November 1. The group reported on three summer programs including a summer speech and hearing clinic serving 19 children at Seymour and Brownstown.

Mental Health Goals Outlined By Indiana Association

Movie Party for 355 Summer Readers at Seymour High
Children who finished the summer reading program will attend a movie party at 10 a m Saturday in the Seymour Senior High School auditorium. A color film Story of Hans Christian Andersen will be shown mixing real actors and cartoon characters. 355 of 561 youngsters completed the Wild Horse Round-Up theme by reading 10 books.

Indiana Guard unit departs for two week field training
Seymour Company B along with 1st Battalion units from New Albany and nearby towns will leave the National Guard Armory at Freeman Field at 8 a.m. Saturday for two weeks at Camp Atterbury. The training emphasizes tactical field work with live weapon firing and a 24 hour blackout during a four day bivouac. A public parade with about 2 000 troops will be held Friday, Aug. 23, between 5 30 p.m. and 8 30 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited.

Two Injured As Troopers Check Five Area Wrecks
Troopers from Seymour post investigated five automobile accidents in the area Thursday and today. Two people suffered minor injuries not requiring immediate medical care. Damages exceeded $1,000 in a I-65 wreck seven miles north of Seymour in Bartholomew County.

Pentagon to close 23 Nike Hercules anti bomber batteries
The Pentagon announced the Army will deactivate 23 Nike Hercules anti bomber missile batteries in 12 states as a cost saving measure. This move reduces active Army strength by about 4200 and trims 18.8 million this year with 54 million in future years. Headquarters at seven sites will also be shut.
