City Budget Unchanged at Seymour Council Meet
Seymour's proposed civil city budget and tax levy of 1.06 for 1945 were not changed by the city council at a semi monthly meeting. A special session set for Monday August 28 at 7 20 p m could lower but not raise the levy. Mayor Burkart warned that a 75 cent levy would yield far less than the proposed budget and noted expected receipts from gasoline tax excise tax and intangibles tax could bring in about 70 000, leaving a 94 515 spending plan to cover. He said the city carries a 25 000 to 30 000 balance and may need to borrow without additional revenues until June.

New Nurse's Aide Group Is Formed
Twelve women enrolled in the latest class of Nurse's Aides meet Friday night at the Jackson County Health Center with instructor Mrs. Arthur Vogel in charge. Rainfall Buoys Drought Relief Yet Falls Short

Soldier's Rites For Pvt Eckelman Sunday
Memorial services for Private Gerald B. Eckelman of White Creek will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church Sunday at 10 am. The 20 year old U S Infantry soldier was killed in action in France. He is survived by his widow Leona Bobb, parents Mr and Mrs William Eckelman and sister Miss Anna Marie Eckelman.

L D Parker eighty one of Crothersville was found dead Tuesday morning at his daughter Rose Crane’s home 912 South Walnut street after a lingering illness. He was born October 21 1862 in Jackson county son of William and Margaret Parker both deceased. He married Sarah Waskom November 1 1885 in Jackson county who died July 22 1934. He was a member of Russell's Chapel.

McKinney Declared German POW After Missing Mission
Technical Sergeant Donald M. McKinney age twenty one, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd M. McKinney of 630 South Poplar Street, was reported July 20 as a prisoner of war held by Germany after going missing July 8 over France. A radio operator on a B 17 with the 388th Bombardment Group, he has been overseas since March 14 and earned the Air Medal. He joined the armed forces nineteen months ago. his family last heard July 7, before the disappearance.

Seymour Woman and Girl Held at Columbus Sawmill
A twenty three year old Seymour woman and a twelve year old girl from Seymour are held at Bartholomew County jail in Columbus for investigation. Columbus police located them at a sawmill on East Tenth Street after residents reported seeing them with soldiers Sunday night and near the mill Monday morning.

County Soldier Receives Purple Heart Award
Mrs. Mabel Thomas VonDielin of Brownstown reports that her husband Private First Class Leland VonDielingen earned the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in Italy on June 2. He is hospitalized in Italy with flesh wounds to the leg and foot and shows normal improvement as of the adjutant general’s word. He enlisted in September 1942 and has been overseas since February this year, son of Mr. and Mrs. William VonDielingen of Brownstown.
