Jackson County Proposes 1964 Tax Levy At 1.29 General Fund
The Jackson County budget proposes a total tax levy of 1.29 for 1964, up from 1.28 previously planned and 1.19 paid this year. The general fund would be 69c, welfare 12c, school tax 25c, and two cumulative funds 10c each. No hospital operation levy is proposed. The plan moves to a two day county council session on September 3 and 4 for review before final state approval.

Two Injured In Crash Near Here
Two people were injured and one driver cited after a car truck crash on U S 31 just north of Seymour. Mrs Freda J Barrett 31 Crothersville was injured with knee and arm cuts and possible rib fracture. she was six months pregnant and taken to Scott County Hospital. John Carl Barrett 35 treated for elbow pains knee scratch and rib pain. Robert Barrett also present. Truck driver John James Miller 42 Scottsville Kentucky cited for failure to yield.

A drop from 84 a day earlier spurred residents to grab sweaters and coats as readings across Indiana fell to 49 in Indianapolis and 45 in Lafayette. Trustees Tour Schools as Seymour District Prepares for Term
Seymour Community Schools board spent the August meeting touring six elementary schools Shields Junior High and Seymour Senior High to check summer work. Projects included new lavatories wiring exit lights roof repairs floor refinishing and a new six classroom addition at Seymour Redding School to open with enrollment day August 30. The board then met at the Administration Building approving July minutes reviewing the financial report and paying August claims. Mrs Paul M Cooper was reappointed to a second term on the Seymour Public Library Board.

Two Appear In City Court Man Is Fine
A 38 year old Seymour man pleaded not guilty to assault and battery and was ordered to reappear August 21 with bond set at 500. He was arrested on a city court warrant by his wife and two officers at 6 39 p m at a local factory. A 43 year old Seymour man pleaded guilty to public intoxication and was fined 15 and costs by Judge Laupus. He was arrested on lower Rockford Road at 11 50 a m Tuesday by state police.

Large Southeast Indiana lunch workshop to be held at Seymour High

Three Hurt Slightly Treated At Hospital
Three patients received outpatient treatment at Schneck Memorial Hospital on Tuesday. Maude Callahan, 74, was treated for a right wrist fracture after a yard fall. REMC Moves to New Headquarters Near Brownstown
Jackson County REMC announces moving into a new headquarters on Venus Road one-fourth mile east of Brownstown with the old Brownstown office remaining open through Saturday noon. The new office opens Monday morning and operations will shift there. McIntyre Brothers of Bedford built the building and began moving Monday with most moves completed. District Tractor Pulling Winners Take Trophies at Fair
Jackson County fairboard awarded trophies for four weight classes in the district tractor pulling contest held at the Jackson County fairgrounds. Rain delayed events, with 3,800 pounds halted Monday and final pulls completed Tuesday night. Marvin Bobb led the 6,200 pound class, while Larry Lowe won the 5,000 pound class after a tie with Russell Peelman. Omer Bobb topped the 7,400 pound class, with rest of podium filled by Bobb, Teipen, Hofmann, and Mason across classes. Cash prizes were also distributed. 10 percent of entry fees support the tractor pulling association, and first and second place winners qualify for the state contest August 30–31 at Kirkland.

Five Escapees From Penal Farm Back In Custody
Five escapees from the Indiana State Farm returned to custody while three inmates remained missing. The fugitives, Wen dell L. Raines, Bill Taulbee, George A. Gwinn, Robert G. Smith, and Samuel E. Courch, walked 18 miles to a farmhouse Tuesday night and asked officials to be notified. Authorities also listed Edward L. Heffley, Robert Wagner Lee, and Ronald M. Alder as missing. The prison had seen a 90 minute riot involving 500 prisoners over rumors about the death of Paul F. Hobbs amid treatment debates. Dr. Hubert Dester, state farm physician, said Hobbs received oxygen and indicated pneumonia treatment.
