Local Man Dies In Car Train Crash
James N. Endicott, 59, of Seymour, was killed Saturday in a car train collision in Jennings County four miles east of Seymour. He drove a 1968 sedan when struck by an eastbound Baltimore and Ohio freight at about 40 mph. Endicott died at Schneck Memorial Hospital from massive head injuries. poor visibility contributed by high embankments. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Burkholder Chapel with Rev. Lewis Wilson officiating. Masonic services tonight. Memorials to Wildlife Conservation Fund. Endicott was a longtime Seymour resident, Mason, former Lions member, and businessman in Seymour with a sports and clothing store. He supported Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge and conservation groups. He later worked for Rubin Grass & Sons as a coats salesman.

No Tax Sale Held In Jackson County As Delinquencies Cleared
Delinquent taxes and assessments were paid before the 10 am deadline at the Browns Town courthouse, marking the first Jackson County tax sale cancellation in history. Four parcels remained delinquent earlier but owners settled, avoiding public action under Indiana law.

Fireworks mark finale of 1973 Jackson County Fair
The 1973 Jackson County Fair closed with a large crowd and record activity including auto racing, a large midway, and the 4 H Horse and Pony Show. Attendance topped 28 600 with 122 animals sold at the 4 H Auction raising 41 482 81. Top steers hogs and lambs set high prices as plans begin for the 1974 fair in August.

V J Day Parade Draws 10000 Down Seymour Streets
An estimated 10 000 people lined the Seymour downtown and the 10 block parade route to Shields Park to view the annual V J Day parade. Seventy one units led by color guards drill teams floats bands and twirling groups participated in the event sponsored by the Leslie Arbuckle Zimmerman Post 1925 VFW.

376 Complete Library Reading Program
The Seymour Public Library Jackson County book mobile and Crothersville branch report 376 youngsters completing the summer reading program. At Seymour 182 readers reached the mountaintop goal while Crothersville had 62 finishers. 132 joined the book mobile. Cards invite a movie party with showings at 10 am 2 pm and 4 pm Thursday and Friday, plus a 7:30 pm Friday Seymour screening. A 10 am Saturday program will occur at Crothersville for those in the reading program there.

Seymour hosts its 27th annual parade and memorial service noted for perfect weather history. The city and VFW post are lauded for observing V J Day and World War II’s end, featuring a railroad box car from France and awards at Shields Park. Seymour Marching Owls won best musical unit. Vigo County American Legion Post earned second. the 73 Singers of Seymour were third.
