Escape Sought in 1961 Murderer Cockrum Case
Jack T. Cockrum, 41, a former Brownstown man sentenced to life for first degree murder in the Marilyn Rice case, escaped from custody during a field trip to Indianapolis. He murdered Mrs. Rice on Nov 28 1961 and wounded her husband before surrendering to law enforcement.

Two drivers were hurt in separate Cortland area crashes Thursday. Mona D. Sutton 36 blacked out on Tipton Street causing a chain reaction into a Whistler and Underhill collision with damages about 225 100 and 500 dollars. Jane A. Spray 18 of Seymour injured a brake failure crash at Fourth and Bush Street with damages estimated at 1500 to the station wagon and 500 to the other car.
